At the end of this session teacher will be able
to:
 Create your classroom rules with students
for a powerful start to the year.
 Create expectations with students to
empower activity that help building the
communication in the classroom.
 Create the power of collaboration between
students.
A paper chart is an excellent option as well.

Or as a PERFECT activity to send home as homework for

great interaction between the parent and student.
First thing is first.
 The FIRST month of the school you are going to break down your class
rules for your students, many of whom have never been to school or in a
structured environment.
 The student will learn “How rules are made and why they should be
followed.”
 This is a topic for the teachers of younger grades cover over and over
again.
 It is a standard to teach and reteach all year long as you grow your
kinder into problem solving individuals.
 After all, some problems can be solved differently when teachers learn
more friendship skills.
 Teachers can be simply adjusting to the structure of the school routine.
How are rules made?
 Ideally, the class makes the rules together.
 Teachers also must create new rules for some classes that
have never been an issue before.
 When a situation arises, teacher must sit down WITH her class
to create her new rules.
 Teachers must talk about what happened, leaving out names.
 Teacher must decide on a way to solve the problem if it
happens again… AS A CLASS.
 And sometimes things happened in the school, not in the
classroom, that will dictate new rules that our administration
needs.
Activities can be used to remind your class about the rules.

• At the beginning of the year, on the very first day and each day afterwards, teacher must
review the rules during a large group time.

• Begin by asking the children “Does anybody know why we come to school?”

• After a few responses, teacher may prompt them and say, “Welcome to school to learn.”

• Use behaviour chart to encourage children.

• Write down the main classroom rules on a chart and hang the rules in a highly visible
area of the classroom.

• Put the rules on your main bulletin board as a reminder of classroom expectations.

• Use flashcards for classroom rules as an activity to remind your class every other day.
Question:
When should student tell the teacher?
When Should students Tell the
Teacher?
 It is important to tell the
kids when SHOULD they
tell you.
When Should students Tell the Teacher?
Create a section on
Sharing or Taking Turns

 Teachers must step in as a leader in the classroom

to reteach a lesson or change a structure on how to
handle friendship situations.
 Therefore, teachers must take a time to create a
section on Sharing or Taking Turns.
 These would be ideal to send home in an agenda or
as an additional character education lesson for a
child who missed it.
 Or for those who need to be retaught.
Be the boss in your classroom
 Whether you’re a pro or first year teacher, the following tips will help you master
the art of classroom control.
 Be a beast on day one, Pizza parties and dressing down are for later.
 Now is the time to instill fear/respect in the minds of the young. However, do not
be aggressive and use low tone.
 Let students fear your anger not you, show a tone in your voice but do not
shout, and do not show weakness.
 If you show weakness, your students will start tuning out the sound of your voice.
 They’ll become inattentive and disrespectful. They won’t follow directions well.
 And, misbehavior will be a daily, even hourly, presence in your classroom.
