Chargeback Log Features
Chargeback is a metrics collection and reporting mechanism
Provides HCP tenants and NSs throughput and utilization
• Tenant or system users can generate chargeback reports
Collection via 2 interfaces: GUI and MAPI

Chargeback Reporting Fundamentals
Report records are derived from namespace hourly buckets
Reporting specifications for result set consist of:
• Output format CSV (UI) or XML or JSON (MAPI Only)
• Time range spec – Hourly buckets inclusive of time range requested

Audit Log
System events (an audit log)
• This log records system events such as:
Nodes and services starting; nodes failed
Changes to the system configuration
Logical volume failures
User logins to the HCP System Management Console
Attempts to log into the System Management Console with an invalid username
The log size is unlimited

Tenant Logs
The tenant log contains messages about events that happen at the
tenant and namespace levels for example:
• Objects
• Applicable services – stopped with or without finishing
• Replication added or removed – including collisions
• User or group accounts – including Active Directory changes
• Namespace changes – including quota alerts

Types of Logging
Syslog logging
• HCP sends system log messages to one or more syslog servers
Sorting the messages, querying for certain events, or forwarding error messages to
mobile devices is possible with 3rd party tools
• Tenant-level administrators can choose to include tenant log messages along
with the system log messages sent to the syslog servers

Types of Logging
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) logging
• HCP can send the System Log to one or more SNMP managers
Email alerts
• Allow HCP system and tenant level administrators to receive email
notification of HCP health events
Internal logs
• Record the processing activity of various components of HCP
• Can help HCP support personnel diagnose and resolve the problem, if a
problem with HCP occurs
• Are kept for up to 35 days

Log download options:
• As of HCP v7.2 users have the ability to:
Download only specific categories of logs
Perform log download using MAPI commands
• Log files are now leaner and less noisy
• Log downloads can now be initiated during online upgrade
