Type of Basement
• A daylight basement or a walk-out basement is contained in a building situated
on a slope, so that part of the floor is above ground, with a doorway to the
outside.
• The part of the floor lower than the ground can be considered the true basement
area.
• From the street, basement appear to be one storey. Others appear to be a
conventional two storey home from the street (with the buried, or basement,
portion in the back).
• Occupants can walk out at that point without having to use stairs.
• The ground slopes downwards towards the back of the building, the basement is
at or above grade (ground level) at the back of the building.
• It is a modern design because of the added complexity of uneven foundations;
where the basement is above grade, the foundation is deeper at that point and
must still be below the frost line.
Structure
• Foundation- The building have deep
foundation as the site is sloping.
• Column-The columns provided are
rectangular with dimension (300 x
600).
• Height of basement- 2m
• Lifts- Two Lifts facing each other are
provided in the building which runs
from to basement -2
• Staircase- Staircase was provided
beside the main lift.
• Ramps- Ramp was 6m wide. Ratio-
1:10
Ventilation for basement
• The basement receives natural lighting and
ventilation from one side throughout the
day.
• No special mechanism is used for natural
light and ventilation. As they have made use
of natural contours.
Services
1. Fire fighting
• The basement is open from one side and
receives natural air all the time, so no
smoke extractors are provided.
• Fire hydrants, hose box and first aid box
are provided near staircase and lift.
• The sprinklers are provided at 3m
interval through the basement area.
• Signage mentioning the method to use
the hydrants provided on each floor.
• On ground floor there were sand
buckets.
An upright sprinkler
sprays water
upwards and the
deflector, which is
curved, deflects the
water back down to
produce a
hemispherical spray
pattern.
The red liquid
alcohol is used in
the glass bulb.
