Came Late to school
Last Wednesday, Abdul came late to her school because He played playstation until 02.00
am in the night. Because of that He woke up late.
He woke up about 06.30 am and the class would be begin at 07.00 am. H e ran to the
bathroom to take a bath. he usually had breakfast after took a bath, but in that day He did not
do that.
He always went to school by His motorcycle. But in that day, H e forgot where He put
the key. So, He went to the school by public transportation. It made him took a longer time.
He arrived at school at 07.15 am. He ran to his class but He saw His teacher has stood in
front of the class to teach. He entered to His class and off course his teacher was angry to
him because he came late.
It was his bad experience and he hoped he would not do it again.

Winning a Drawing Competition
Last month was the unforgettable experience I’ve ever got.
I was the first winner of a drawing competition.
I have loved drawing since I was 3 years old. I practiced
so hard before the competition. My parents were really nice and
supportive. They prepared healthy food for me. They also gave
me the motivation to believe in myself. Besides, they also
helped me to practice and gave positive comments.
I love drawing and I want to be a great artist one day.

Both of the texts are personal recount.
When people or someone tells the other about their past activities actually they had delivered
a personal recount. But people around them will not interested with the kind of the text, they
just interested with the story that they tried to deliver. However, as students you have to learn
how personal recount is, what is the social function of it, and what tense that this text used, as
your knowledge.
Personal recount is a sequence of events of an experience that the writer or speaker was
involved in. personal recount can come in different forms; personal letters, diary, or
autobiographies.
Social function of the personal recount is to retell or inform the readers about the past
activities or events in chronological orders. After read or listen to story people will know what
happened to the writer or speaker in the past time and what did they do in details.
a. Generic structure of the text :
a. Title
b. Orientation or setting
It is about introduction the participants, place and time. It tells who was
involved, what happened, where the events took place, and when it happened.
c. The events
Describing series of event that happened in the past. Telling what happened
and in what sequence.
d. Re-orientation
It is optional. It consists of closure of events/ending. It is stating personal
comment of the writer to the story
b. Language features
using first or third person point of view
written in past tense
using time sequences (last month, yesterday, etc.)
using conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.

When I …(1) a kid, I had a very horrible experience. It happened when I was about 6
years old. At that time, my parents and I …(3) along to see carnival in town. On that day, we

After arriving there, my father, my mother, and I looked so many interesting shows. I was
very happy because it was my first experience of seeing the carnival. I still remember when my
father took me to see the magic show, carousel ride, and …(4) the haunted house. I really
enjoyed that night.
After walking around, we rested in a place. I forgot its name, I knew it was a place where
a lot of people sitting around eating their meal. Then the three of us were resting there. When I
was a child, I was very active and did not like silence. And so at the evening, when my parents
were chatting, …(5) went alone to see the clown. I followed the clown until I realized that I was
lost and missing. I was trying to get back to the place where …(6) were. However, they were no

When I was crying, someone approached me. Then he took me to a security post. I saw
