Projection of Points: Engineering Graphics Lab

This document discusses the projection of points in engineering graphics. It outlines the nine types of point projections based on their location relative to the horizontal and vertical planes. It then provides the terminology and process used to project points, including drawing projectors perpendicular to reference planes and labeling different point views. Finally, it lists sample problems analyzing point projections, with instructions to draw the projections and specify the quadrant locations.

Projection of Points
There are basically nine type of projections of point is space :

1. In FIRST Quadrant (Above H.P. , In front of V.P.)

2. In SECOND Quadrant (Above H.P. , Behind V.P.)

3. In THIRD Quadrant (Below H.P. , Behind V.P.)

4. In FOURTH Quadrant (Below H.P. , In front of V.P.)

5. In PLANE (On V.P. , Above H.P.)

6. In PLANE (On H.P. , Behind V.P.)

7. In PLANE (On V.P. , Below H.P.)

8. In PLANE (On H.P. In front of V.P.)

9. In PLANE (On both H.P. & V.P.)

Problems Analysis & Nomenclature

• From the observer's direction draw projectors perpendicular to the reference plane through the point.

• Extend the projectors if necessary to meet the planes.

• The intersection of the projectors with the reference planes are the projections of the point.

• The top views of the points A,B,C are to be represented with single primes as a’ ,b’, c’ ,.

• The front views of the same point A, , C are to be represented with double primes a”, b”, c”.

• mark the distances with reference to the reference lines xy and ex one by one if necessary.
Session 01: Projection of Points

1. Point A is 25 mm above the HP and 25 mm in front of VP. draw the projections of the point and state the quadrant in
which the point is situated.

2. Point B is 25 mm below the HP and 40 mm behind the VP draw its projections and state the quadrant in which the point
is placed.

3. A point Q is 15 mm above the HP and in the VP. Draw its projections and state the quadrant in which the point is situated.

4. A point Q is 30 mm in front of the VP and in the HP. Draw its projections and state the quadrant in which the point is
situated.

5. Draw the projections of the following points on the common XY line. Also state the quadrants in which they are located.

a. 30 mm above HP and 35 mm in front of VP

b. 35 mm above HP and 40 mm behind VP

c. 40mm above HP and on VP

d. 35 mm below HP and 30 mm in front of VP

Session 02: Projection of Points

1. A point is 35 mm below HP, 20 mm behind VP and 25 mm from RPP. Draw its projections and name the side
view.

2. Draw all the 3 views of a point ‘P’ lying 60 mm below HP ,70 mm in front of VP and 40 mm from the RRP. Also
state the quadrant in which the point ‘P’ lies.

3. A point ‘A’ is 30 mm in front of VP ,20 mm above HP and 25 mm from LPP. Draw the projections and name the
side view.

4. Point P is on HP and 35 mm in front of VP. Another point Q is on VP and below HP .The line joining their front
views makes an angle of 30 degree to the XY line, while the line joining the top views makes an angle of 45
degree with the XY line. Find the distance of the point Q from HP.

5. 2 points R and S are on HP. the point R is 35 mm in front of VP, while S is 50 mm behind VP. The line joining the
top views makes an angle of 40 degree with XY line. Find the horizontal distance between the two projectors.
