PHOTOGRAPHS
A photograph or photo is an image created by
light falling on a light-sensitive surface, usually
photographic film or an electronic image such
as a CCD or a CMOS chip. Most photographs
are created using a camera, which uses a lens to
focus the scene's visible wavelengths of light
into a reproduction of what the human eye
would see. The process and practice of creating
photographs is called photography. The word
"photograph" was coined in 1839 by Sir John
Herschel and is based on the Greek meaning
"light", "drawing, and writing", together
meaning "drawing with light".
DIARIES OR JOURNALS
A personal journal is a record of significant
experiences. For a journal, one does not just
record one's experiences but also thoughts,
feelings and reflections. Diary writing is a daily
activity but one can write in
a journal whenever there is a desire to write
about significant experiences.
MANUSCRIPTS
A manuscript evolved from the Latin manu
scriptus, meaning “written by hand.” Manu is
“hand” and scriptus is “to write." It refers to old
documents actually written by hand before
books were made, but it can also refer to a
writer's unpublished work whether it's
handwritten or typed.
ORAL HISTORIES
Oral history is the collection and study of
historical information about individuals,
families, important events, or everyday life
using audiotapes, videotapes, or transcriptions
of planned interviews.
MAPS (dating to the period)
Maps are wonderful tools for reconstructing the
past. Maps can help researchers visualize and
interpret how an area has changed or has
remained the same over a period of time. Maps
can give a huge range of information, from the
height of the hills, to the names of roads, places,
bodies of water, buildings, and communities
many of which may no longer exist. Don’t be
surprised if your perspective changes over and
over again as you learn about the symbols and
keys used to help you understand all that maps
tell us!
PATENTS
A patent gives an inventor the right to stop
other people making or using their invention. If
someone makes or uses that invention without
being allowed to, the inventor can sue that
person in court to make them stop.
ART WORK
Art is a diverse range of human activities
involving the creation of visual, auditory or
performing artifacts (artworks), which express
the creator's imagination, conceptual ideas, or
technical skill, intended to be appreciated
primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Other activities related to the production of
works of art include art criticism and the history
of art.
POEMS
A poem is a piece of writing in which
the words are chosen for their beauty and
sound and are carefully arranged, often in
short lines which rhyme.
ORIGINAL RESEARCH
Original research is considered a primary
source. It is the report of a study written by
the researchers who actually did the study the
results of the research are reported
the researchers interpret their results and
discuss possible implications.
NEWSPAPERS
A newspaper is a periodical publication
containing written information about current
events and is often typed in black ink with a
white or gray background. Newspapers have
traditionally been published in print (usually on
cheap, low-grade paper called newsprint).
CORRESPONDENCE (letters, Email, or text
messages
Letters are brief messages sent to recipients
that are often outside the organization. Email
is familiar to most students and workers. Text
messages is a written communication in the
form of brief messages, or texting, has
become a common way to connect.
AUTOBIOGRAPHIES
An autobiography is a biography in which the author
writes about his or her own life. The word comes from the
Greek stems "auto" (meaning "self"), "bio“ (meaning
"life"), and "graph" (meaning "write").
Autobiographies are usually written in first-person,
meaning you can use the pronoun "I". A lot of academic
writing for college does not allow you to use I or me,
but autobiographies do.
SPEECHES
Speech is a language refer to the means of
communication used by people. Speech is the
expression of ideas and thoughts by means of
articulate vocal sounds, or the faculty of thus
expressing ideas and thoughts. Speech, address,
oration, harangue are terms for a communication to
an audience.
OFFICIAL RECORDS OR LEDGERS
Official record means the record prepared and maintained by the department for
each offender and juvenile received into the physical care and custody of the
department. The record shall include, but is not limited to, written, printed, or
electronic materials, documents, or data pertaining to services and programs.
A ledger account contains a record of business transactions. It is a separate
record within the general ledger that is assigned to a specific asset, liability,
equity item, revenue type, or expense type.
REAL ESTATE RECORDS
The person recorded on public real estate
records as the owner of real property. The term is
sometimes defined to mean the person reflected on
the tax assessor's rolls.
MUSIC
Music is a form of art that uses sound organised in
time. Most music includes people singing with their
voices or playing musical instruments, such as the
piano, guitar, drums or violin. The
word music comes from the Greek word (mousike),
which means "(art) of the Muses". In its primary
sources, music merges with the representational arts.
Oral tradition has played a fundamental role in all
ages, but in its formal sense, history and the history
of music, begins with the visual record.
NOVELS
A Novel is a long narrative work of fiction with
some realism. It is often in prose form and is
published as a single book. The word ‘novel’ has
been derived from the Italian word ‘novella’ which
means “new”. Similar to a short story, a novel has
some features like a representation characters,
dialogues, setting, plot, climax, conflict, and
resolution. However, it does not require all the
elements to be a good novel.
CENSUS DATA
Census data is collected at regular intervals using
methodologies such as total counts, sample surveys,
and administrative records. After it is collected or
generated, census data is summarized to represent
counts or estimates of groups of people for different
geographic areas.
