Li - Fi Ppt-By Sampath

LI-FI uses light from LED lamps to transmit data wirelessly, instead of radio waves. It was first proposed in 2011 and demonstrated working prototypes have been shown. LI-FI has several advantages over traditional Wi-Fi, such as higher speeds, no interference with other devices, improved security, and energy efficiency. However, challenges remain around light not passing through obstacles and requiring line of sight between devices. Further research is ongoing to address these issues and make LI-FI a practical alternative to Wi-Fi networking.

Light Fidelity(LIF I)
o Light based WIF I
o Light is used instead of radiowaves to
transmit the data
o Transceiver fitted LED lamps acts like WI
FI modems
o L E D lamps can light a room as well as
transmit or receive information
• History of LIF I
o First coined by German
physicist Harald Haas from
the university of Edinburgh
in UK
o demonstrated at TED
global talks
o first LIFI smart phone
prototype was presented
at the consumer
electronics show in Las
Vegas in 2014
ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM

▪ R adio waves: expensive and less secure

▪ Infrared rays :low power applications due to eye
safety regulation
▪ UV rays: dangerous for human body
▪ xrays : used in health issues
▪ Gamma rays : dangerous
WORKING PROCESS OF WIF I
➢ Works on the flickering property of LED lights
➢ Can be made 0n or off with high speeds with
out being visible to human eye
➢ Data is transferred as a binary code
➢ The if light is on it transfers 1 and transfers
0 if it is off
➢ a LIFI modem is fixed at the source of light
and is connected to light source
➢ It sends the information to light first
➢ The light rays are received by the photo
detector and a signal processing unit converts
the data into streamable content

➢ Both of these
combined called as L I
F I dongle which is
connected to the
computer
▪ wireless networking protocol that allows devices to
communicate without internet cords.
Devices that can use WiFi technology include
personal computers, videogame consoles, phones and
tablets, digital cameras, smart TVs, digital audio players
and modern printers.
can connect to the Internet via a WLAN and a
wireless access point. Which has a range of about 20
meters indoors and a greater range outdoors.
❖ Many issues if WIFI which stood as its
disadvantages were solved by LIFI
• advantages
▪ There are many applications in which LIFI is used

1. Avoid accidents 2. Used in ocean beds where

communication radio waves fail completely
through traffic lights
➢ safe to humans and environment
➢ Used in hospitals in some medical
equipments
➢ In airlines
➢ Street lamps as free WIFI hotspots
• challenges

▪ Light can’t pass through objects so signal

is restricted
▪ Interferences from external sources like
sunlight ,normal bulbs and opaque
materials in the path of transmission
will cause interruption in
▪ communication
▪ requires light in line of sight
high installation cost of VLC system
conclusion
✓ There is still research
being done on LIFI to meet
the existing challenges.
✓ This technology is
currently used in highly
developed countries .
✓ Pure L IF I is the company
which provides LIF I
dongles.
✓ If this technology
has
come into common use
transfer of data
becomes very easy and
cheap
