ABOUT MOOD
DISORDERS
A mood disorder is a type of mental illness that affects a person's
emotional state. It's a mental illness in which a person has long stretches
of intense pleasure, depression, or both. It's normal for someone's mood
to shift depending on the circumstances. Symptoms of a mood disorder,
on the other hand, must be present for several weeks or longer to be
diagnosed. Mood disorders can alter your actions and impair your
ability to cope with everyday tasks such as work or school. Depression
and bipolar disorder are two of the most common mood disorders.
