Ecotourism Overview and Initiatives

Ecotourism involves low-impact and environmentally responsible travel that conserves natural areas and improves local welfare. It builds environmental awareness in both visitors and hosts while providing financial benefits to local communities. The first ecotourism destination in India was Thenmala in Kerala, featuring a reservoir, dam, and railway integrated with an eco-tourism center. Anurayee ecotourism in Maharashtra was started on barren land near a river to rebuild relationships with nature through organic farming, providing employment, and teaching visitors about plants and sustainable practices.
