VOLUME
Volume is the amount of space within a three-dimensional object.
The SI unit for volume is cubic meter( . However, volume can be measured in other units such
as cubic centimeter, gallon and cubic inch.
Most of the time, volume is measured in , especially for small objects.

SOLIDS
REGULAR SOLIDS
Examples of regular solids include cuboid, cube, cylinder, sphere, cone, prism and pyramid. The
volumes of regular solids may be determined from formulae.
VOLUME OF A CUBOID
VOLUME OF A CUBOID= LENGTH×𝑊𝐼𝐷𝑇𝐻
ACTIVITY
Calculate
the volume of the cuboid shown below.

WHERE IS YOUR
TIN MACKEREL?
HOW TO MEASURE THE
VOLUME OF A TIN
MACKEREL?
Step 1: Measure the height of the mackerel. Step 2: Measure the diameter of the mackerel.
height
Write down the height of the mackerel.
Step 3: Remember that RADIUS= DIAMETER÷2
Calculate the radius and write it down. Step 4: Calculate the volume of the mackerel using
the formula that was given.

FINDING THE VOLUME OF
COMPOUND SOLIDS
Step 1: Separate the compound solid into solids you can recognize.
Step 2: Find any unknown dimensions – length, height or width .
Step 3: Find the volume for each of the distinct solids that make up the compound solids.
