Chernobyl Disaster: Causes and Consequences

On April 26, 1986, reactor 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded due to human errors during a safety test. Anatoly Dyatlov ordered the test to be carried out at low power against regulations, causing a power drop. When the reactor operator Leonid Tupunov lowered power further on Dyatlov's orders, it caused the reactor cores to become unstable. Despite warnings from reactor engineer Aleksandr Akimov, Dyatlov refused to stop the test. The reactor then exploded, releasing radiation across Ukraine and neighboring countries. Yenny Drain later demonstrated in an experiment that with a faster reaction, the reactor could have been stabilized and the accident avoided.

CHERNOBYL

ACCIDENT
WHAT HAPPENED?
 On April 26, 1986, the worst nuclear
accident in history occurred, where
human errors and the desire for control
over nature and even more over nuclear,
unleashes a war in which both parties
were destroyed.
 From midnight on April 25 to 1:23 on the
26th, reactor 4 of the nuclear power plant
exploded due to the late intervention of
AZ - 5, emergency shutdown.
 That night an operative was in charge,
Aleksandr Akimov, but Anatoly Dyalov's
wishes to defeat nuclear power due to the
death of his son were stronger than any
position.

CHAIN’S EVENTS
Dyatlov ordered that the
test be carried out with a
minimum power of 700
regulations, it was then
that Leonid Tupunov was
forced to lower the power
despite Akimov's warnings
towards Dyatlov

4
 Then the alarms went off,
 But the power
the nuclear reactor had
dropped too low
turned into a pressurized
causing the reactor
volcano. Akimov
caps to start to jump,
commented that the
Dyatlov blamed
power kept decreasing,
Toptunov and ordered
something that for
Akimov to fix the
Dyatlov was impossible
"bugs" of this

As a desperate measure, Akimov activated AZ-5 too
late, the graphite rods only increased reactivity. It was
then that ... it happened

Reactor 4 exploded and USSR hid the seriousness of
radiation levels soared in the incident and, for two
all directions, affecting days, the people of Pripyat
countries closest to received large amounts of
Ukraine. radiation before being
evacuated with the
"promise", or better to call it
a lie, that they would return

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
DYATLOV?
 First mistake: Perform
the test without
regulatory power
 Second mistake: Your
past impaired
performance
 Third mistake: You didn’t
respect leader in charge
 Fourth mistake : Selfish,
closed-minded and
arrogant attitude 8
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE
AKIMOV?
 First mistake: Why
did you let them take
your controller away?
 Second mistake: If
you knew the
regulations, why
weren't you firm with
Dyatlov?
 Third mistake: Slow
Reaction

YENNY DRAIN
ANSWER

During the experiment, the same
conditions were taken into account in
which the accident at the Chernobyl
nuclear power plant happened

Like Leonid, Drain lowered the power
next to the control bars
11
 When power drops causing the Xenon
poisoning, Miss Drain's experiment
reveals as evidence the activation of
AZ-5 before the destabilization of the
reactor occurs, reactivating the power.
 It is proven that the Chernobyl accident
occurred due to the slow reaction of
Aleksandr Akimov

12
IN THE END
 Yenny demonstrated that with the
required reaction time and the first
start of xenon poisoning, it was possible
to re-stabilize the reactor and the test
would have been successful.
 Activation of AZ-5 was necessary, that
way graphite and boron would come
together without allowing the turbine
water to evaporate completely
