Decathlon has taken several CSR initiatives related to sustainable cotton and textile production: 1) Since 2012, Decathlon has supported the Better Cotton Initiative to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional cotton farming and incorporate social standards. 2) In 2006, Decathlon began using organically grown cotton for some products, though organic cotton currently accounts for a small portion of global cotton production. 3) Decathlon is involved in research efforts to develop recycling systems for used clothing and cotton waste through its partnership with ADEME and French manufacturers.

Organic

Organic cotton:
In 2006 Decathlon began using organically grown cotton, a
small market that currently accounts for just 0.4% of the
world’s cotton production. At the moment, it use it mainly for its
yoga-related ranges, such as leggings, Capri pants and T
shirts. Recycled
Recycled cotton: cotton
Recycled cotton still poses technical issues for manufacturers,
who are struggling to develop systems capable of recycling
used or end-of-life clothing. Decathlon is heavily involved in the
efforts of ADEME (the French environment and energy
management agency) to support research in this area, in
partnership with a consortium of French manufacturers, and Better
concentrating on two specific avenues: the recycling of
industrial waste and the recycling of used clothing. Cotton

Since 2012 Decathlon has been supporting the Better Cotton
Initiative (BCI), whose good practice guidelines are designed
to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional cotton
farming, and which incorporate a broad social component
CSR initiatives(Make in India)
Recycled polyester
Decathlon partnered with a recycled polyester yarn manufacturer in 2017.
They provide raw material for our finished goods. The factory is located
near Nashik and produces 100% recycled polyester from post-consumer
waste PET bottles. About 70% of yarn produced for Decathlon is exported
to various countries.

Textile
Decathlon has working with textile manufacturers in India for over 2
decades now. We work with different processes such as woven & knit with
over 10 suppliers, mostly based in the south of India .As of today about
59% of woven products , 75% of Knits products with natural fibres sold in
our stores are made in India. The target is to have 95% of products made in
India in the next 3 years.

Bikes Assembly
At an average, more than 50% of the components that are used to
assemble a Decathlon Bicycle are sustainably manufactured in India, with
the rest of components arriving from Decathlon partner factories situated in
different parts of the world. It is our MISSION to bring the technology &
knowhow in India to be able to manufacture more than 80% of the
components in India by year 2025
