Flood Level Indicator Using Arduino

This document describes the components and functions of an ultrasonic flood level detector with an alarm system. It uses an ultrasonic transducer to measure fluid levels, an Arduino Uno microcontroller to process the sensor readings and control other components, an LCD to display the water level percentage, an LED that blinks when the threshold is reached, and a buzzer that sounds the alarm if the water level exceeds the limit. The overall purpose is to detect rising flood water and alert occupants once it reaches a dangerous height.

FLOOD LEVEL DETECTOR

WITH ALARM SYSTEM

THAT IS PLACED ON THE
OUTSIDE WALL OF THE
HOUSE
Group No.
MATERIALS USED
(DEFINITION, TYPES FUNCTION & APPLICATION)
 is also called Ultrasonic Sensors which are
a type of acoustic sensors.

ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCER
 Transmitters- converts electrical signals into ultrasound
 Receivers- converts ultrasound into electrical signals
 Transceivers- can do both transmission and can receive
ultrasound

TYPES OF ULTRASONIC SENSORS

 Measuring wind speed and  Ultrasonography
direction (anemometer  Burglar alarms
 Tank or channel fluid level  Non-destructive testing
 Speed through air or water  Wireless charging
 Humidifiers
 Sonar
 Medical

APPLICATIONS
 For this project, the ultrasonic transducer is used measure
fluid level by measuring the distance between the surfaces of
the water to the sensor’s designated level.

FUNCTIONALITY OF ULTRASONIC
TRANSDUCER
 A microcontroller based on the ATmega328.
 Arduino UNO ff. specs:
 14 digital input/ output pins (6 PWM Outputs)
 16 MHz ceramic resonator
 ICSP header
 USB connection
 6 analog inputs
 Power jack
 Reset button

ARDUINO UNO
 It serves as the brain of our device for the following reasons
 Program that will activate the Ultrasonic Transducers
 Flood level indicator Formula for the sensors and buzzer.

ARDUINO UNO’S FUNCTION

 a mechanical, electromechanical, magnetic,
electromagnetic, electro-acoustic or piezoelectric
audio signaling device.

BUZZER
 Creates a sound (beeping) if the water reached the flood
limit.

BUZZER’S FUNCTION
 also known as Liquid Crystal Displays. is a type of flat
panel monitor. An LCD screen is created by electric
voltages hitting liquid crystal cells, allowing 64 different
shades per cell.

LCD
 is used as a visual indicator to the percentage level of
the water surface from the ultrasonic transducer. The
maximum threshold is 90%.

LCD’S FUNCTION
 also known as, light-emitting diode, LED is a
semiconductor device that emits visible light when an
electric current passes through it.

LED
 Likewise to the buzzer it will also trigger of the threshold is
reached; LED’s will blink alternately flood level limit is reached.

LED’S FUNCTION
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
IN THE MAKING
 The flood-level indicator’s function, as described by its
name, is to sound as an alarm once its sensor detects the
percentage limit 92% via the rising water level from the
container (as seen in the prototype).
 If applied to real-life scenario, this device can be very useful
in structures, especially housing units, located in low-rise
and flood-prone areas.
