HEALTH ASSESSMENT (Ears)

The document provides an overview of the anatomy and physiology of the ear, describing the external, middle, and inner ear structures including the pinna, auditory canal, eardrum, ossicles, cochlea, and semicircular canals. It also reviews the pathways of hearing and balance, covering how sound and head movements are detected by the ear and transmitted through various structures to produce sensations of hearing and equilibrium. Key tests for examining the ear including otoscopy, tuning fork tests, and balance assessments are also outlined.

Semicircular Canals
• Contain

of equilibrium
• Stimulated by
changes in the

Physiology of Balance
• Linear motions of the head detected by
the vestibule
