Course Title: Business mathematics-

1.
 Topic : Importance of Business Mathematics-1
&
It’s effect on business.
The Real Number System:
A mathematical object is used to count, measure
and label.

1.Number is used to count. Business can not be

conducted without it.
2. It is used to use codes and data.
3.Binary number is used to calculate in
computer.
Theory of sets:
A collection of well-defined & well-
distinguished objects.

 Helps to prepare the program for feeding into

the machine.
 Helps to survey many things like population
counting, production volume etc.
Arithmetic Progression:
A sequence whose terms increase or
decrease by a common difference.

 Used to find time at watch.

 Used to analyze electricity, light & Atoms.
 Used to count Fiscal year & month
Geometric progression:
A sequence whose term increase or
decrease by a contract ratio.
 Helps to find the future value and the present
value of an annuity.
 Used to annuity working out monthly
repayment of loans, the value of investments
& compound interest.
 To measure the population increment.
Linear Equation:
Equation that can be expressed in the form of
Y= mx +b.

 Used to know quantities to discover unknown

quantities.
 Used to evaluate for hours of works, for tons
of raw materials, for the volts of electricity.
 Used to express between the cost & the profit.
Quadratic Equation:
A 2nd degree of equation which is
expressed by ax2+bx+c = 0.

 Helps to forecast business profit, loss, plot the

course of moving objects & assist in
determining minimum values.
 Used to model situation & relationship in
business.
 Used to evaluate maximum profit &
difference between the revenue and cost.
Mathematics of Finance:
Concerned with interest rates & their effect on the value
of money. Interest rates have widespread influence over
decision made by business & our personal lives.

 Helps to calculate & understand the concept of the time value

of money (simple & compound interest).
 Helps to identify strategies for investing & comparing various
sources of short time & long time investment.
 Analyze & decide which sector is appropriate to investment.
 Calculate & compare the risk return liquidity & cost for
savings & investment & the dividend yield.
 Helps to effects of inflation on saving & investments.
Logarithms:
The logarithm of a number is the exponent to
which another fixed value, the base must be
raised to produce that number.

 Used to find the interest rate.

 Used as a measurement scale .
 Used to break a large number into smaller
form.
