Volvo policy on electric cars

Disconnecting
Disconnecting
• Count the time from the moment the 12V battery was disconnected.
Disconnecting
• Remove the Manual Service Disconnector MSD.
• Check the measuring function of the voltage tester.
Disconnecting
• Carry out voltage measurement according to the positions in the graphic.
• Make sure that the voltage level is lower than the stated level.
Disconnecting
• Check the measuring function of the voltage tester.
• Install the marked component.
Disconnecting
• The high voltage battery is now disconnected and further work according to VIDA can now be performed.
Connecting
• Remove the Special Tool. Install the Manual Service Disconnector MSD by pushing it downward
with both hands until it bottoms out. The catch should be used only to lock the MSD.
Connecting
• Remove the Special Tool
• Connecting the battery
High Voltage System Isolation
Measurement
• Measurement 1
• Perform insulation test according to: Diagnostics / Components / Control Modules /Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) /
Diagnostic Sequences / Insulation self-test for the high voltage system.
• Hint:
When a contactor changes position, a clicking noise is heard from the high voltage battery.
High Voltage System Isolation
Measurement
• Measurement 2
• Select the measurement range according to the image. Connect the measuring instrument according to the image.
• Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 2.
High Voltage System Isolation
Measurement
• Measurement 3
• Measure the insulation with 500 V. During insulation measurement, keep the button pressed for at least 5 seconds so that the
measurement value stabilizes.
• Measure the insulation between terminal 1 and terminal 2.

SAFETY INFORMATION
• Voltage tester or multimeter (Rating Cat3) Protective visor. Fully covering face visor for arc protection.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Rubber gloves with ICV rating 1000 Volts. Warning sign
(Before use, the gloves must be tested for leaks) Must be applied visibly on three sides
around the work area
SAFETY INFORMATION
• The sign must be fitted or hung fully visible on Plastic links for cordoning off, yellow-black
the vehicle, contact details for the person Posts/cones
responsible must be stated
SAFETY INFORMATION
• Emergency hook
SAFETY INFORMATION
• Only specially trained technicians may work with the High voltage system.
• Ensure that local rules and regulations regarding electrical work are followed.
• All voltages over 60 Volt DC or 30 Volt AC are to be considered as highly dangerous.
• If the work requires disconnection of the high voltage battery or work with a voltage above 60 Volt DC, the vehicle/work area
must be cordoned off with plastic links and posts for the entire repair.
• In principle, all batteries can cause serious injury if they are short-circuited by, for example, jewelry or metal tools.
• It is prohibited to charge the vehicle during work or repairs.
• No High Voltage-related components may be disassembled unless otherwise stated in VIDA.
• Make sure that tools used in safety related tests of with the High Voltage system are fully functional, and do not show any visible
damage.
• All work must be preceded by a risk assessment / risk analysis.
• All persons working on electric vehicles should complete CPR training.
SAFETY INFORMATION
• Warning signs should be applied visibly on three sides around the work area.
