themselves through outdoor pursuits

Aims
• Environmental Awareness – make participants aware of
the wilderness around them and help them to develop a
sense of responsibility and belonging within it
• Personal Growth – participant will challenge themselves,
set goals which lead them to new personal insights and
greater self-esteem; develop leadership qualities; get a
feeling of accomplishment and a stronger self-concept to
carry over into everyday life.
• Group Development – make participants work to become
a cohesive group founded on trust, respect, openness
and common goals; group experiences are transforming
and energy carries individuals through challenges they
would not normally contemplate.

ACTIVITIES

1. High ropes/ low ropes courses


High ropes and Low Ropes course are both physically and
mentally challenging

• Introduce instructors to the group and build trust;


• Establish behaviour and safety guide lines for the group;
• Initiate the group development process;
• Introduce concept of Challenge by Choice
• Built from logs, cables and ropes suspended above ground
up to a height of 40ft
• Good communication and support is central to these
activities.

2.Nature Walk
• The bog walk gives participants an
opportunity to learn more about the flora
and fauna

• This activity includes nature appreciation,


games and environmental education.

3.Wilderness & Survival Skills


• Participants learn the essence of
wilderness survival while ensuring for
personal and group comfort.
• This activity specifically focuses on living
with the environment, and teaches skills
that can be used in the wilderness,
including fire lighting and shelter building

4. Kayaking
• The kayak programs focus on skill development
and fun. Participants will learn:

• A progression of paddling strokes;

• Get the “feel” of the boat while paddling and


playing games.

6. Wild Camping
• The Wild Camping is at the heart of our program. Out-trips
can be a simple day outing or an expedition lasting a week or
more.
• • A out trip provides an enjoyable wilderness experience with
a focus on group strength.
• It is a medium for positive group development encouraged by
the leader.
• Participants should experience personal growth and
development.
• • Instruction in minimum impact camping, natural history,
navigation, outdoor cooking and many other skills take place
during the out-trip.

Wild camping – environmental
issues
• Pitch late, leave early. Stay for one night only at
a particular site

or urinate in streams, rivers or lakes
• Do not camp by water (midges, damp, flooding,
tides) or under a tree (lightning, falling branches)
