Subinvolution: Ms. Mandeep Kaur Associate Professor Obstetrical & Gynecological Nursing

Subinvolution occurs when the pelvic organs do not return to their normal size after childbirth. Predisposing factors include grand multiparty, overdistension of the uterus, maternal ill health, and cesarean section. Retained products of conception is an aggravating factor. Symptoms include abnormal lochial discharge, irregular or excessive uterine bleeding, and irregular cramp-like pain. Signs include an enlarged fundal height and a boggy, softer uterus. Management involves antibiotics for infection, exploration for retained products, pessaries for prolapse or retroversion, and methylergometrine to enhance the involution process.
