Gi Tag

A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and qualities due to that origin. GIs identify goods originating from a definite geographical area that are produced, processed or prepared there and have a special quality or reputation. Examples of Indian GI products include Darjeeling tea, Alphonso mango, Mahabaleshwar strawberries, and Paithani saris. France was one of the earliest countries to establish a GI system, and international protection is provided through the TRIPS Agreement. India now has over 617 registered GI products.
