Examples:
1. There are 35 students in a certain class. Fifteen
students belong to the Math club. Thirteen
students belong to the Science club. Seven
students belong to both clubs.
a. Draw a Venn diagram to illustrate the
problem.
b.How many students belong to neither clubs?
c. How many students belong to Math club only?
d.How many students belong to Science club
only?
2. In a class of 28 students ,18 are in Math Club,15
are in Science Club and 8 are in English Club. There
are 10 students in both Math and Science clubs , 5
students in both Math and English clubs, 3 students
in both Science and English clubs and 2 students in
all three clubs.
A. Draw the venn diagram to illustrate the problem.
B. How many students are not in any of these clubs?
3. During a meeting for the Family Day Activities ,
the parents suggested the following:
47 wanted to have a variety show
48 wanted to have a sports fest
35 wanted to have an outreach activity
29 wanted to have a variety show and a sports
fest
26 wanted to have a sports fest and an
outreach activity
14 wanted to have a variety show and an
outreach activity
8 wanted to have all three.

surf but not ariel , 450 prefer surf or ariel
but not tide and 370
prefer either ariel or tide only but not surf.
How many persons have no brand
preference.

tabulated as follows:

How many were there in the graduating
class?
7. A pastry chef had 150 cakes orders to be
delivered on Christmas day. Of those, 120
include black forest, 94 included caramel and
79 included triple chocolate. There were 71
orders including black forest and triple
chocolate, 67 including black forest and
caramel, 66 including caramel and triple
chocolate. Sixty-one orders had all three
flavors in them. How many had ordered
caramel and triple chocolate, but no black
forest?
