How can we help others?
What do you think about
blood donation?
Any idea???
Donating Blood
Donating blood is an active way of helping
others and the whole of society.
For you, it's just a few moments out of your
day but for patients in need, it may save
their life.
What is Blood Donation? Why it is required?
A blood donation occurs when a
person voluntarily has blood drawn.
It used for transfusions and made into
biopharmaceutical medications by a process
called fractionation (separation of whole-blood
components).
Donation may be of whole blood, or of specific
components directly (the latter called apheresis).
World Blood Donor Day
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year by the people in
many countries around the world on 14 June.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on the day of
birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on 14 June 1868.
World Blood Donor Day celebration brings a precious opportunity
to all donors for celebrating it on national and global level as well as
to commemorate the birthday anniversary of the Karl Landsteiner (a
great scientist who won the Nobel Prize for his great discovery of
the ABO blood group system).
Benefits of Donating Blood
Improves heart health.
Enhances the production of new blood cells.
Burns calories.
Reduces cancer risk.
Free health screening done.
Saves lives.
Brings joy to many.
Do you think donating blood is harmful?
New, sterile disposable equipment is used for each donor, so
there's no risk of contracting a bloodborne infection
by donating blood. If you're a healthy adult, you can
usually donate a pint of blood without endangering your
health. Within 24 hours of a blood donation, your body
replaces the lost fluids.
Registration PROCESS
You will be required to fill up a health assessment questionnaire. Donors have
to produce their identity cards or passport for registration.
Medical Screening
A doctor or nurse will go through the questionnaire with you in detail. You
need to sign a declaration form to confirm that the information you have given
is true. Your blood pressure, weight and blood haemoglobin will also be
checked. For first time donors, blood grouping will also be done.
Blood Donation
Sit back and relax! A specially trained nurse will apply a localised painkiller
to your arm before drawing blood. All equipment used is sterile, disposable
and used only once to prevent spreading of diseases through blood donation.
Giving blood is completely safe.
After blood donation, light refreshments will be served to you while you take
a short rest. The whole process, including the rest time, takes about 45
minutes.
Advantages of Blood Donation
The best part of the blood donation is you will get blessings of the
person, to whom your blood will be useful.
One more thing is that one donor’s blood can be used by 3 to 4
patients, as the blood is divided into various useful components. So,
you actually save more than one life by only one-time blood
donation.
Also, there are things of your use, that is you can get one free
health check up.
There are also some other useful facts like reducing the risk of heart
disease and some type of cancers. So, we must encourage peoples
to donate blood.
