VHF Network
Used for intra-district communication
Frequency: 30-300 MHz
Range: Fixed to Fixed: 30-40 Km
Fixed to Mobile: 5-10Km/20-25Km (Rpt)

HF System we have been using since 1973:

Vertex Motorola HYT Philips
Kenwood Puxing ICOM
UHF Network
• For densly populated built up cities
• Not suitable for long range communication
due to earth’s curvature
• Main mode of transmission: LOS, reflection,
diffraction
• Used as main mode of communication in 4-
Metros; RMP & SMP use VHF
• Frequency range: 300MHz-3000 MHz
Limitations of Existing System
• Extremely busy net in DMP & CMP
• Coverage both in cities & districts is not
adequate
• Shortage of equipment
– Not all the SIs could be provided with
handsets
• Not all the districts were provided with
repeaters
Limitations of Existing System contd..

• Shortage of skill manpower

– Recently some Diploma Engineers were
recruited as SIs
– We need more
• No vehicle support for maintenance
technicians
–neither in Hqs nor in district base
Current initiatives for further
expansion
• Modernisation of DMP Control Room Project

• Bangladesh Police Computerisation Project

• Command Net (Digital Trunking System)

Project
Main Functions
Functions of Police Tele-Communication:

Police Communication systems and wireless networks.

• HF Networks
HF network is a long distance communication net
• VHF Networks
With the help of VHF network all Dist, Highway Police &
R.M.P
• UHF Networks
UHF networks have been functioning in metropolitan
cities and these are D.M.P, C.M.P & K.M.P networks.
• Trunking Networks
Trunking networks have been functioning in RAB.
HF Networks
• HF network is a long distance communication net. Six HF fixed stn
sets have been installed at central base station, Dhaka, Each set
works for each range. all the district H.Q base stns in each range
have been inter linked with central base stn. Dhaka, through HF Set.
There is a common channel for communication With any HF Stn in
the country.
• [Link]'s are also provided with HF Sets to maintain long distance
communication among them and also with central base station.
Dhaka/any district base station, on a common channel.
• Many old model HF sets have been replaced with modem
computerized and synthesized HF system. The new modem HF
sets are highly sophisticated and have many extra facilities like
A.L.E Fax, data, ID, Selective Call etc, Further Steps have been
taken to modernize the HF networks throughout the country. Our
Plan is to connect all districts with HF in the very near Future. The
French govt. has provided a grant towards this effort.
HF Networks

HF
VHF networks:

• With the help of VHF network all Dist. HQ.

Base station have been inter linked with
respective PS's OP's CPS and mobile
station.
• There is another VHF command net with
the help of this command VHF net all the
Dist HQ base. stations have been inter
linked with central base station Dhaka
through back to back repeaters.
UHF Networks:
• UHF networks have been functioning in metropolitan cities and these are
D.M.P, C.M.P, K.M.P and R.M.P networks. Repeaters are used in order to
maintain satisfactory communication from point to point by walkie-talkie sets
and get a better range.
• There is a control station for controlling D.M.P. main net (north and south),
Traffic net, V.I.P. (North and South) and D.B. net The D.M.P. Control station
is equipped with modern wireless equipments. There is also tape recorder
for recording all reception and transmission. Walkie-Talkie and fixed station
sets are programmed with I.D. number to monitor the caller.
• Why we use UHF sets at metropolitan cities and VHF at District level:
There are high rise building in metropolitan cities and they are
congested as a result of which VHF radio waves are highly opposed, Where
as UHF radio waves get less opposition & has better penetration. Therefore
UHF sets are used in metropolitan cities. ON the other hand district has no
such problem and so VHF sets are used in district level.
Power Supply:

Fixed sets are operated with the help of A/C P.S.U. Heavy duty lead
acid batteries where electric supply is not available, 12V heavy duty battery
is used to operate the fixed stations sets. The heavy duty batteries are
recharged with the help of P.E.G (Petrol engine generator) / Solar Charger.

Biggest user:
Police Tele-communication organization is the biggest user of different HF,
VHF, and UHF wireless sets, antennas, feeder cables and accessories in
Bangladesh.

Volume of Traffic:
Police Tele-Com. organization receives & transmits a large number of
message every day and the volume of traffic is heavy. Our system works 24
hours round the Clock.
Training:
There is a Police Tele-com training school at Police Tele-Com. HQ. Rajarbagh,
Dhaka. Basic operation courses, radio mechanic / Technician courses are
conducted here. Other courses like orientation and refresher course are also
conducted. Police personnel are also sent abroad for training.

Repairing/Workshop:
There is a Police Tele-Com. central workshop at Police Tele-com. HQ. Dhaka.
This a fairly modem workshop equipped with modem test equipments such as
system analyzer, infra-red soldering device, different test sets of different types,
signal generators, Frequency counters, oscilloscopes etc. There are also ten
outside workshop at important district Hq/Base station. If outside workshops fail
to repair faulty equipments the equipments are sent to central workshop for
repairing. Efficient technicians repair those equipments at central workshop.
Many of our technicians have been trained by manufactures both at home &
abroad.
