Incremental Conductance Algorithm

The document discusses the incremental conductance algorithm for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in photovoltaic systems. It describes how the incremental conductance method works by comparing the incremental and instantaneous conductance to determine if the operating point is at the maximum power point, to the left of it, or to the right of it. The document also provides a flowchart of the incremental conductance algorithm and notes that it has advantages over the perturb and observe method in not oscillating around the maximum power point once reached.

Incremental

Conductance algorithm
Maximum power point
 Operating point at which we can extract maximum power from the pv
panel.
 System that makes the pv module to extract maximum power is “MPPT”.
 Types of MPPT:
 Perturb&Observe algorithm
 Incremental Conductance algorithm
Concept of IC algorithm

 The incremental conductance method is based on the fact that the slope
of the PV array power curve is:
 zero at the MPP
 positive on the left of the MPP
 negative on the right of MPP
1. dP/dV ≥ 0 (left of MPP)
2. dP/dV ≤ 0 (right of MPP)
3. dP/dV = 0 (At MPP)
Derivation of IC algorithm
Flowchart of IC algorithm
Advantages

 The MPP observed will not be oscillating as in case of perturb and observe
method.
 It will not perturb the system once the MPP is reached.
