INTRODUCTION TO TOURISM TRANSPORT
Tourism and transport are immediately connected
to each other, as the movement of people of the
most important elements of tourism.
United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
defines tourism as: a subset of travel since it
entails the movement of people to countries of
places outside their usual environment for personal
or business / professional purposes (2014)
Theobald (2005) suggests the derivative of the word
tourism, tour- can also be interpreted as a round –
trip (based on the Latin word tornare) while -ism is
a suffix that forms an action.
Hence tourism can be seen as the act of leaving and
the returning to the original starting point, and
therefore, one who takes such a journey can be
called a tourist
Tourism system , transport is the key connection
between the tourist’s origin and the destination

1. Tourism Destination;
2. Tourism Spot; and
3. Tourism Attraction?
A visitor is a traveler taking a trip to a main
destination outside his/her usual environment,
for less than a year, for any main purpose other
than to be employed by a resident entity in the

resident visitors within the country of reference as part of domestic
or international tourism trips
2. NATIONAL TOURISM comprises domestic tourism plus outbound
tourism, that is to say, the activities of the resident visitors within
and outside the country of reference, either as part of domestic or
outbound tourism trips
3. INTERNATIONAL TOURISM comprises inbound tourism plus outbound

country of reference, either as part of domestic or outbound
tourism trips and the activities of non- resident visitors within the
