Hourglass body shape
• If you’re curvy with a tiny waist, then you’ve got an hourglass shape.
Your goal is to highlight your curves, not hide them, by emphasising
your waist.
• Don’t hide the curves; find clothing that accentuates your body.
You’re looking for jumpsuits, tailored blazers and jackets and pencil
skirts. As for dresses, wrap dresses perfectly highlight the area
between your waist and hips. Try wide leg pants, which also help
define your shape.
Apple body shape
• If you have a slim lower body and carry weight around
your middle, you’ve got an apple shape. Your goal is to
minimize your midsection by highlighting your
shoulders and legs.
• That’s why you need to flaunt your legs or wear the
dress with V or deep V necklines that created an
elongated illusion of the torso.
Pear body shape
• If the widest part of your body is around your hips, you’ve
got a pear shape. Your goal is to elongate and balance your
figure by accentuating your top half.
• One of your best assets is your slim midriff(the region of the
front of the body between the chest and the waist.).
• Your hips are wider than your shoulders, which is why you
need to enhance and add volume (or the illusion of volume)
to your upper body while dressing up. Emphasizing your
waist and de-emphasizing your lower body to create a
balanced, hourglass appearance is the key.
Banana/Rectangular Body Shape
• The rectangular shape has no curves.
• You know you have this type of structure if you have the same
measurements for all sections of your body.
• Since it does not have a well-defined waistline, the body tends to look
straight.
• Your goal is to highlight the thinnest part of your waist so your hips
and bust appear larger and more proportional.
• Understanding which of these shapes is closest to
your body type can alleviate some of the frustration
that comes with struggling with body image. When
the media only represents a certain shape, it becomes
more likely that we compare our bodies to that.
Realistically, there are many different types of bodies
(with even more nuances among each individual).
• Knowing your basic body shape and understanding
the types of clothes that will accentuate your good
features (and minimize your less than perfect
features), means you'll be able to dress in a way that
really suits you.
