FACTORS AFFECTING

ORGANISATION BEHAVIOUR
 PEOPLE : People make up the internal social system of the
organization. That system consists of individuals and
groups, and large groups as well as small ones. There are
unofficial informal groups and more official formal ones.
Groups are dynamic and they change with change in
situation. The employees working in these groups have
different background, talents, and perspectives to their
jobs. Managers have to deal with them differently and
cannot adopt one formula or standard.

 STRUCTURE : Structure defines the roles and relationships of

people in an organization. This leads to division of work so
that they can perform their duties to accomplish organizational
goals. Different duties are performed by different people which
creates authority-responsibility relationships.

TECHNOLOGY : Technology provides the resources with
which people work and also affects the tasks they
perform. The great benefit of technology is that it
allows people to do more and better work. But it also
restricts people from doing things in various
ways.Infact, it has cost as well as benefits.

ENVIRONMENT : No organization exists alone, they

operate within a given internal and external
environment. An organization is a part of a larger
system that contains other factors or elements such as
government, family and other organizations. All of
these mutually influence one another in a complex way.

 UNDERSTANDING OF SELF AND OTHERS: The
study of OB helps us understand ourselves and
others in a better way. This helps greatly in improving
our inter-personal relations in the organizations.
Friendly and cordial relations between employees and
management and also among the employees create a
congenial work environment in organizations.

 MOTIVATION OF HUMAN RESOURCES: The

knowledge of OB helps the managers know individual
employees to work for better results. It helps managers
apply appropriate motivational techniques in accordance
to the nature of individual employees who exhibit
glaring differences in many respects.

GOOD HUMAN RELATIONS: Organization behavior can be useful to achieve
and maintain cordial relations in the organization. If an employee is slow in
his work, it is not always because of denial of promotion or poor work
environment. Similarly , if union gives a strike call, the basic issue may not be
a demand for more wages, higher bonus, a better canteen or
entertainment facilities. Reluctance of management to talk to union leaders
about workers problem might provoke them to give a strike call OB helps
understand the cause of poor industrial relations in the organization and
suggest suitable measures for their improvement.

INTRODUCTION OF CHANGE IN THE ORGANIZATION: Change is the

law of nature . Organizations have also to undergo changes as a result of
technological, social, political and other environment. Change are often
resisted by the organization members. This problem can be successfully
handled by the use of behavioral science knowledge . Change can be
introduced through proper education of employees through effective
communication and group dynamics. The benefits of change should be
highlighted and information should be shared with all those likely to be
affected by the change.

Effective organizational climate: behavioral sciences
suggest the creation of organizational climate in totality
rather than merely improving the physiological
conditions or increasing employee satisfaction by
changing isolated work-process. Satisfactory working
conditions, adequate compensation, and better
equipments for the job are viewed as only a small effort
in creating sound organizational climate .
