Social Interaction
• Social Interaction Function of Communication is
the most obvious, the most used and the most
popular.

• Think of the many times people interact with other


people by talking to them, conversing with them
and enjoying each other’s company.
Verbal Cues
 Are the specific words that are chosen and used.
The speaker and the listener should be both
respectful of each other's culture, age, gender,
social status, religion, etc. Most of the time the
words used are informal terms and are delivered
casually. Philippine society dictates behaviors
when talking to authoritative people like elderlies.
Examples:
 Two people chatting after they smile at each
other.
 An employee is going to be late for work, so they
phone their boss to let them know.
 Someone is facing difficulties in their life, so he
goes to a friend’s house to talk it through face to
face.
 A teacher in a classroom explains a topic to their
students using just the power of their voice.
Non-Verbal Cues
 This include different hand gestures, bodily action
like posture, vocal tone like paralanguage and of
course eye contact. Just like in Verbal cues, the
speaker and the listener should be respectful to
others. The tone must be friendly and the bodily
action should be relaxed.
Examples
 Shaking hands
 Patting the back
 Hugging
 Pushing
 Facial Expressions
 Gestures
 Eye Contact
 Secret Signs and Symbols
Social Interaction occurs every single day of our
lives. With the number of people interacting with
each other, either Verbal, Non-Verbal or even both,
Interactions are endless.
