Students will explore the big idea of heroes
through a modified choice-based activity. Students
will be creating a representation of who they see
as a personal hero or hero figure in their life. The
concept of heroes will be analyzed through a
historical, community, and personal analysis.

●Each group will receive a historical biography for the
following historical figures: Cesar Chavez, Sally Ride,
Marie Curie, Jackie Robinson, and Sitting Bull.
- Each group will read the biography and answer
essential questions about their specific historical
figure.
- After reading through the biography, groups will
discuss the biography and answer the essential
questions together.
- After each group has had time to discuss, groups will

- What characteristics or qualities does the historical
fgure have that you believe are heroic qualities?
- In what ways did these historical heroes make a
lasting impact?
Studio Investigation
1. TSW explore…
- different art materials to create their hero.

2. Studio is choice-based modified.


3. Materials to choose from:
- Glue - fabric
- Markers - yarn
- Colored paper - googly eyes
- Stuffing - paint
- Crayons - paint brushes
- Scissors - pipe cleaners
- Hot glue gun - jewels/beads/etc.

Once finished there will be an exit ticket to be completed and attached to artwork.
