Analysis of surveyed data
An online survey was conducted to find out about the general attitude
of students towards cleanliness at NIT, Calicut.
When asked about the cleanliness of the hostel and campus about
43% of the students are satisfied, 33% dissatisfied, and 24% of the
students are somewhat okay with the current condition in hostels and
campus.
Asking about the students they see littering around in hostel and
campus, they said about 31% of the students are littering around.
Asking about whether they think SAC and the authorities are working
for having a clean campus and hostel, about 77% of the students
responded positively.
When asked about the students who think about the cleanliness in the
campus about 29% of the students said that most of them think about
it and 66% of the students said that some of them think about the
cleanliness.
About 60% of the students feel that they themselves are responsible
for cleanliness in the campus.
SAC CLEANLINESS PROGRAMS
Students Affairs Council is a democratically elected student body
which coordinates all the activities in the institution .

Under the SAC there are few posts such as Hostel Affairs
Secretary and Mess Affairs Secretary who ensure the cleanliness
of hostels and mess.

Clean Campus and Green Campus.

1st phase: Introduction of colour coded dustbins around the


campus and hostels.

2nd phase : A waste segregation complex between E and F


hostels.
SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF CLEANLINESS

Garbage cans at the door of every classroom and remove


accumulated garbage every day.

Organize some awareness programme about the importants


of cleanliness

Strict observance of rules and regulations


Keeping college buildings, floors and surroundings clean is
important for health and the positive image of our institution.

Taking care of the gardens and trees, keeping the plants well
trimmed and watered

Have a massive cleanliness awareness drive across the campus


Conclusion

Many students are dissatisfied with the cleanliness in the


hostel
Littering is seen mostly in the hostels
Need for more awareness programs to be conducted in the
college
