First day script

Entering the Classroom

Enter quietly
Put up jacket (child may keep it on, but if it
becomes too hot or they play with it, they will
put it up).
Empty book bag and hang it up.
Get 2 pencils, books, and materials.
Turn in homework.
As they are doing this I will tally hot/
Cold lunch

Morning Routine
Students will read posted, daily agenda.
(After Breakfast)
Next students will begin the bell ringer.
(Written on the board)
If there is an educational video, students will
quietly watch that and eat breakfast.
Attendance will be taken as students eat
breakfast.

Morning Routine Conti.

After breakfast, students will line up in an
orderly fashion when called (by row) to throw
away their trash.
While each row is gone the selected student
for desk cleaner after breakfast will do their
job.

Bin Procedure
Bins will be used for a variety of things and
will be placed throughout the classroom for
designated purposes such as:

Excuses/absence
Permission Slips
Classwork
Homework
Incomplete work
Etc.

Headings
Heading will be explained to the classroom
thoroughly.
Students will fill in the appropriate heading in the
top right hand corner.
This will include:
Student name
Date
Assignment

Emergency Drills
The emergency evacuation drill will be
posted in the class room.
Other emergency procedures such as
tornado drills will be posted as well.
Mandatory administration procedures will be
posted too.

Getting Student Attention

If students get too loud or are not focusing the
attention procedure will be used.
The procedure I will use goes as follows:
Ill raise my hand and with a noticeable voice I will say 1,2,3.

Then I will start the attention phrase.

Heads up, look around, eyes on me, turn your voices
down.
Then the class will proceed on quietly after I remind
them of their inside or whisper voices.
Students will raise their hands if they have a question,
not yell out.

Classroom Jobs

There will be a job wheel posted in the room.

The wheel will have several jobs and rotate
between students every day.
Jobs include:

Teacher aid
Line leader
Pledge leader
Paper passer
Desk cleaner (after breakfast)
Date changer (calendar in class)
Trash pick up
Etc.

Bathroom Breaks

Bathroom Breaks occur throughout the day.

Breaks will happen after breakfast.
After lunch
After recess and P.E.
And they have two emergency breaks to
use throughout the day.

Handwashing
Handwashing is always done after using the
bathroom and before and after lunch
There are 5 steps:

1. Turn on the water.

2. Get 1 squirt of soap.
3. Wash and rinse hands.
4. push button 2 times for the paper towel.
5. turn off water and put the paper towel in
garbage can.

Pencil Procedure
There will be one bin for sharpened pencils
and one for dull pencils.
If there are no good pencils, then the student
may sharpen one.
Students will raise their hand if they need to
retrieve a pencil.

Lining Up
To line up students will be called by rows.
(This will vary throughout the day)
The line leader will line up first at the door.
They will then line up one at a time in a
quick and orderly manner.
They will keep their hands and feet to
themselves and shouldnt be talking at this
time.

Desk Organization
Students will keep their desks in an orderly
fashion.
Procedure will be taught during the first day
of class.

Transitions
In between assignments and coming back from outside
of the classroom transitions will be used.
Appropriate noise level will be used during this time.
Transitions include: Brain Breaks and 2 min. walk and
talk. The walk and talk can be used to develop social
skills.

Work Done early

If work is done early students can do several
things:
They will double check their work first to
make sure it is right.
Then they can read quietly to themselves.
They can write in their folder or journal
if they have one.
Or they can draw.

Dismissal Procedure
Before students are dismissed we will go over
what we learned that day.
After that one at a time students will be called to
take their book, get their homework folder, then
retrieve their book bag and jacket.
They will then return to their seat and
wait for the dismissal bell.
After the bell I will call them to line up
and leave.

First Day Script

For my first day script I will begin by greeting
each student with a smile as they walk in the
door.
Until I learn their names it will just be a
friendly hello.
I will ask them to put their bags in the back
cubbies and find the desk with their name
posted on it.
After that I will explain the classroom
procedures with a PowerPoint presentation
that was prepared

First Bell Ringer

They will have a bell ringer waiting for them once
they sit down.
The bell ringer will ask the question, what did you
do with your summer.
I will ask the students to sit and answer the question
quietly.
Afterward, I will ask them to answer and state their
name, and what they like to do for fun.
I will model this first so that they have an idea of
what to do.

Morning Routine/Class Rules

I will explain the morning routine, including
breakfast, bell ringers, and backpack and
lunchbox placement.
Then I will go over the classroom rules.
next we will practice the rules.
This will include eating, lining up, the
attention phrase, and how to respond to it.

Bin Procedure
After the morning routine, I will model and explain
the bin routine.
Bins will be used for a variety of things and will be
placed throughout the classroom for designated
purposes such as:

Excuses/absence
Permission Slips
Classwork
Homework
Incomplete work
Etc.

Heading on First Day

Paper headings will be explained next.
I will model on the board then students will
do.
Students will fill in the appropriate heading in the
top right hand corner.
This will include:
Student name
Date
Assignment

Fire Drill/Other Procedures

Next I will explain the fire drill and other procedures
and explain where they are hung in the classroom
so the students know in case of an emergency.
The emergency evacuation drill will be posted in
the class room.
Other emergency procedures such as tornado drills
will be posted as well.
Mandatory administration procedures will be posted
too.

Student Attention/Classroom
Jobs
I will explain the attention phrase, Heads
up, look around, eyes on me, turn your
voices down.
Then I will model and we will practice it.
Jobs will be divided among students and
then rotate from day to day.

Bathroom Breaks/Lining up
Procedure

I will then explain that:

Breaks will happen after breakfast.
After lunch
After recess and P.E.
And they have two emergency breaks to
use throughout the day.
As we proceed to the bathroom I will explain and
the students will practice proper lining up
procedure.

Handwashing/Pencil
Procedure
Proper handwashing with the appropriate
steps will be modeled after the students use
the bathroom.
Then the students will return to the
classroom and the pencil procedure will be
explained and modeled.

Desk Organization/Brain
Break
We will then organize our desks after
practicing the pencil procedure.
Then students will transition into a brain
break and the students can have a break
and unwind while I explain the transitions.

Done Early/Dismissal
Procedure
Once we are finished with our brain break we
will proceed to silent reading or drawing to
simulate being done with our work and
getting started on the next day of class.
Then I will call the children to pack up and
explain the dismissal procedure and model it
before the dismissal bell. The children will
then go home after
successful first day.
