Understanding Compressors: Function & Uses

A compressor is a fluid machine that increases the pressure of compressible fluids like gases and vapors. It works by transferring work done by the compressor into kinetic energy and increased pressure of the fluid passing through it. Compressors are used in cooling systems, turbo reactors, and pneumatic systems. The first oxygen pump that could produce a vacuum was invented in 1650 and the first atmospheric compressor was patented in 1829.

COMPRESSOR

BY
RUBEN FAUSTINO MALAGON VARGAS

WHAT IS IT ?
A COMPRESSOR IS A FLUID MACHINE WHICH IS CONSTRUCTED TO
INCREASE THE PRESSURE AND FLUID DISPLACING CERTAIN TYPE CALLED
COMPRESSIBLE , SUCH AS GASES AND VAPORS

HOW DOES IT WORK?

THIS IS DONE THROUGH AN ENERGY EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE MACHINE
AND THE FLUID IN WHICH THE WORK CARRIED OUT BY THE
COMPRESSOR IS TRANSFERRED TO THE SUBSTANCE PASSING THROUGH
IT BECOMING ENERGY FLOW, INCREASING ITS PRESSURE AND KINETIC
ENERGY PROPELLING FLOWING.

APPLICATIONS

COOLING SYSTEMS
TURBO REACTORS
SYSTEMS NEUMATYCS

PARTS OF THE COMPRESSOR

BORN

IN 1650 , GUERICKE INVENTED THE FIRST OXYGEN PUMP , WHICH COULD

PRODUCE A PARTIAL VACUUM AND HIMSELF USE THIS TO STUDY THE
PHENOMENON OF VACUUM AND THE ROLE OF OXYGEN IN COMBUSTION
AND RESPIRATION. IN 1829 , THE FIRST PHASE OR COMPONENT OF
ATMOSPHERIC COMPRESSOR WAS PATENTED FOR ALFRED WITCHS .
