Eco-Friendly Oil Cleanup with Bagasse

This project studied using sugarcane bagasse as an absorbent material to clean oil spills. The objectives were to provide a lower-cost alternative to current oil boom absorbents and encourage eco-friendly solutions. Bagasse was found to be an effective oil sorbent that could potentially reduce waste in landfills and costs of cleaning oil spills while being reused as fertilizer. The project highlights the innovative use of an agricultural waste product and potential benefits to the environment and society.

Oil Spillage Cleanser Using Bagasse


Project Description

Objectives

This study was conducted to observe the ability of


sugarcane bagasse as an absorbent material for oil
adsorption. Baggase is a fibrous material that remains
after sugarcane are crushed to extract their juice. We
are suggesting it as an alternative method to treat
the oil spillage on the sea as a replacement to the
current oil absorbent boom. This project was
conducted
