Prafulla Chandra Roy: A Biographical Timeline

Prafulla Chandra Roy was born in 1861 in Jessore district, India. He had an interrupted early education due to illness but eventually studied chemistry receiving his BSc from Edinburgh University in 1885 and his DSc in 1887. He made significant contributions to the field of chemistry, discovering mercury nitrate and publishing research on Indian foodstuffs. Roy spent his career as a professor of chemistry at Presidency College in Calcutta, founding the Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical factory and the Indian Chemical Society. He authored two volumes on the history of Hindu chemistry before retiring in 1936. Prafulla Chandra Roy passed away in 1944 at the age of 83.
