Aims
To familiarize the surgical trainee with the required
knowledge and skills for performing basic surgical
procedures in order to standardize the training and
improve their competence in performing the desired
skills.
OBJECTIVES
College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan has decided to impart knowledge of
basic surgical skill to trainees of FCPS II in the Surgical & Allied discipline during first
year of residency. This mandatory workshop is of Three days duration. At the end of
the workshop, the participants will have the "awareness" and "skills" of the:
1. Basic operation room protocols and asepsis.
2. Surgical instruments handling.
3. Tying different types of knots.
4. Sutures, needles and suturing technique.
5. Handling of common problems in trauma & Tubular structures anastomosis
(gut, vessel, ureter, bladder and trachea on simulated and animal tissue).
6. Common Diagnostic procedures.
7. Introduction to Endoscopic surgery ( Laparoscopy)
Format: There will be no lecture programme. At the beginning of each session screen
demonstration of the procedure will be made followed by hands on practice,
supervised by a group of facilitators.
