It is the second most populated city in the United States
North, with about 8 million inhabitants.
It is divided into 5 boroughs:
Bronx, Broklin, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island.
It has a temperate climate with well-defined stations.
The inhabitants of the city are called "New Yorkers"
New York is a highly cosmopolitan city of one of the most
important financial centres, trade and industry in the
world,

Until 1674 the native tribe LenniLenape, lived in the place where
New York is today.

In 1524, the 1 st European to arrive


at New York was the Italian Gionanni
Verrazano, in service of the King of
France.
In 1609, the English Henry Hudson
landed on the island of Manhattan
and gave the name of the river city.

Dutch East India
Company, a
company of
trade and
colonization,
built a city and a
stronghold, they
called Fort
Amsterdam.

The economic prosperity of


the city attracted Spanish

many problems: pollution of
air and water pollution,
