Nursing Care Plan for Hernias

A hernia is the abnormal protrusion of an organ or tissue through the wall that normally contains it. There are different types of hernias, including umbilical hernias which occur around the belly button, incisional or ventral hernias which occur through surgical incisions, and hiatal hernias which involve the stomach pushing through the diaphragm. Diagnostic studies are used to identify hernias, and treatment options include surgical repair using mesh patches or plugs, as well as providing psychological support to patients. Nursing students are assigned to develop a health teaching plan for patients undergoing hernia repair surgery.
