We have 3 x + 10x + 7 3 = 0 Since length of tangents from an external point to
2
3 x + 3x + 7x + 7 3 = 0 a circle are equal,
DR = DS = 5 cm
^x + 3 h^ 3 x + 7h = 0
AR = AQ
^x + 3 h^ 3 x + 7h = 0
BQ = BP
x = - 3 and x = - 7
3 Now AR = AD - DR
Hence roots x = - 3 and x = - 7
3 = 23 - 5 = 18 cm
or AQ = AR = 18 cm
If x = - 2 is a root of the equation 3x2 + 7x + p = 0 ,
find the value of k so that the roots of the equation QB = AB - AQ
x2 + k ^4x + k - 1h + p = 0 are equal. = 29 - 18 = 11 cm
Ans : [Board Term-2 Foreign 2015]
PB = QB = 11
2
We have 3x + 7x + p = 0
Now +OQB = +OPB = 90c because radius is
Since x = - 2 is the root of above equation, it must always perpendicular to tangent.
satisfy it.
Thus OP = OQ = PB = BQ
Thus 3 ^- 2h + 7 ^- 2h + p = 0
So, POQB is a square. Hence, r = OP = PB = 11 cm
p =2

friends. When we went mehrangarh fort we found
following fare for ride :

Ride Normal Hours Fare Peak Hours Fare

Horse Rs 50 3 Times
Elephant Rs 100 2 Times
Some people choose to ride on horse and rest choose
to ride on elephant.
(i) First day we rode in normal hours and we paid Ans :
Rs 1950 for ride. Let x be the number of horses

(iii) Next day we rode in peak hours, then how much (i) Thus profit function is P (x) = - x2 + 310x - 7400
total fare was paid by our group?
Now P (x) = - x2 + 310x - 7400
(iv) What was the increase in total fare because of
peak hours ride ? = - x2 + 310x - 1552 + 1552 - 7400
Ans : = - (x2 - 310x + 1552) + 16625
(i) Let x be the number of horses hired and y = - (x - 155) 2 + 16625
be the number of elephant hired, then we
have x + y = 25 and 50x + 100y = 1950 & From above equation it is clear that P (x) is
x + 2y = 39 maximum at x = 155 and this minimum value is
16625.
(ii) Solving equations x + y = 25 and x + 2y = 39
we get x = 11 and y = 14 . (ii) For maximum profit 155 thousand bottle must

Number of horses hired = 11
(iii) The maximum profit is Rs 16625.
Number of elephant hired = 14.
