It preserves the cloud forest and a region of humid tropical rainforest in Soconusco, ecosystems rich in biodiversity.
The humid rainforest of Soconusco is the only one with these characteristics throughout the Mexican Pacific and possibly
from Mesoamerica. The vegetation cover of the high part acts as a sponge that captures rainwater and
humidity coming from the Pacific Ocean.
While the fog forest in this area is considered the most diverse in North and Central America, and it is one of

The climate is warm-humid with rainfall in summer Am, with a high percentage of rainfall in winter. This natural area
protected shares the majority of its species with Montes Azules, and together with Bonampak and Chan-Kin, connects to Montes
Blues with the humid tropical forest of El Petén in Guatemala and Calakmul in Campeche, potentially offering a
large area for bird species that require large extents of tropical forest.
