The lubrication system is the

PROPERTIES OF OIL

Viscosidad:It is a measure of the resistance to the flow of an oil. A low oil

The viscosity is thin and flows easily, while one of high viscosity is thicker and
flows with greater length.

SAE Classification (Society of Engineers)

in English).

Single grade SAE30, SAE40, SAE60.

Multigrade 10W40, 5W50, 5W40

9
MONOGRAPH

MONOGRAPHThey have the characteristic that their viscosity changes significantly with the
temperature, when it decreases, its viscosity increases and when it rises, its viscosity
decreases.

Among the monograde oils are:

SAE40 Used in heavy-duty engines and in very hot weather (summer)
•SAE30 is suitable for automobile engines in warm climates.
•SAE20 Employee in temperate climates or in places with temperatures below 0°C,
In the past, it was used for settling in new engines. Currently, this is not the case.

•SAE10 Employee in climates with temperatures below 0°C.

MULTIGRADE

Many motor oils have an index improver added.

of viscosity. This allows the viscosity of oil to be preserved
relatively unchanged, hot or cold. A viscosity oil

when it's cold and SAE 30 when it's hot.
Automakers recommend oils
multiviscosity for most driving conditions

that are used to reduce the friction between parts.

FUNCTIONS OF THE LUBRICANT

. Lubricate: When starting the engine, the pump driven by the camshaft draws the
oil, it passes through the filter for cleaning and pushes it towards the parts that require it
lubrication, such as the rings, the supports of the camshaft, the supports of the crankshaft, etc.
. Refrigerate: The lubricant oil absorbs some of that heat and dissipates it to the outside through the
engine oil pan.
. Seller:The oil, by lubricating the cylinders, creates a film that prevents the passage to the crankcase.
from the mixture of combustible air, combustion products, and non-combustibles
burned
. Cleaning: with dispersant additives prevents the formation of carbon deposits and sludges in the
engine parts.
. Protect against corrosion
. Protect against wear

LUBRICATION SYSTEMS IN A VEHICLE
These are the different methods of distributing oil to the engine components. The following are distinguished:

. Splash: It consists of a pump that carries the lubricant from the sump to small
"deposits" or grooves, and maintain a certain level, some blades arranged in the elbows of the
The crankshaft 'splash' oil onto the parts to be lubricated (cylinder walls, piston, gears)
. Pressure: The oil is driven by the pump to all the elements, through some
conducts.
. Mixed system:It uses the splash type and in addition the pump sends the oil to
pressure on the crankshaft bearings.
. Total pressure system: the oil reaches pressure at all friction points (base, foot
of the white, camshaft, rocker arm shaft) and more engine work, through some orifices that
they connect to the oil pump.
. Dry sump system: This system is primarily used in competition engines and
aviation, they are engines that frequently change position and for this reason the oil
is not always found in the same place.

DIAGNOSIS OF LUBRICATION SYSTEM PROBLEMS
One of the most common complaints related to the lubrication system is:
The engine uses too much oil.
2. the light or the oil indicator shows low oil pressure.

• oil leaks: the total absence of Misuse of additives:

15
PROBLEMS IN LUBRICATION

ENGINE WEAR
CAUSE
Formation of sludge, they are a thick, creamy, and black substance that can form in the
motor; prevents the circulation of oil by obstructing the oil meshes of the filters, the
oil passages and the pipes. The engine will fail due to lack of oil.
Worn bearings throw more oil into the cylinders that, worn and conical, prevent the
function of the oil control rings, the rings would be unable to scrape the oil
surplus for what goes up to the chamber.
EFFECT
The oil burns and produces: carbon increasing detonation, dirt in the spark plugs and
it causes the rings to stick to the piston, which wears out and reduces the sealing force.

16
CONCLUSIONS
A filter that is too dirty ceases to be part of the lubrication system.
Exposing the engine to lubricate with dirty oil and without filtering.

It's not about screwing in just any filter; the filter must be exactly the
specified by the manufacturer.

When changing the oil, you should wait for it to cool down enough and
do not feel pressured to avoid accidents.

It is important to periodically check the oil circuits to detect

leaks.
