Sampling

The document outlines the methodology for determining sample size using a single population proportion formula, with a calculated sample size of 201 based on a prevalence rate of 50.7% and a desired precision of 5% at a 95% confidence level. The calculations involve standard normal distribution values and correction for populations under 10,000. The final sample size includes an adjustment for a smaller population, resulting in a total of 201 participants.

Sampling

Sample size determination

Sample size was calculated using single population proportion formula by taking of 50.7% as p
value from the similar research performed in Arsi zone referral hospitals, south East Ethiopia(a)
using the desired precision 5%,confidence level 95%

A total sample size was determined as follows;

n=Z2 p(1-p)

d2

Where, n= sample size

d= desired precision 5% = (o.o5)

Z= standard normal distribution value at confidence level 95%=1.96

P= prevalence rate of nurses practice of non pharmacological pain management

Therefore, d= 0.05

( za/2 )2=3.8416

P= 50.7%=0.51

d= (0.05)2= 0.0025

n=Z2 p(1-p)

d2

n0= 3.84*0.51( 1- 0.51)

0.0025

= 383.84~ 384

n= n0

1+ (n0-1)

N
n=
384
1+ ( 384-1)

357

= 182.86~183

We use correction formula for population < 10000 which is 10 % of 183 equals to 18.3

The total sample size will be 183+ 18= 201
