5.50 mm hook (or size needed to obtain gauge)
Lion Brand Lion’s Pride Woolspun (#5 Bulky
weight, 3.5 oz / 100 g, 127 yds, 80% Acrylic 20%
wool) – color shown is Clay – 3 skeins Stitch
Marker
Tapestry Needle & Scissors Spray
Bottle & Water for blocking

Gauge: 3 sts & 4 rows = 1” in Waistcoat


View from the back as hook is inserted – the
Stitch back side of each stitch has two vertical bars,
Finished Measurements: 13” tall from tip to in an upside-down v (highlighted in blue). The
crown, 23” crown circumference, 46” white point marks where the hook should come

Waistcoat Stitch (WS):

Waistcoat Stitch is worked by inserting the hook


through the vertical bars of the single crochet
below (in the shape of a v) instead of in the top two
loops. The Waistcoat stitch is just single crochet
stitches which are worked through the
vertical bars of the stitch below instead of
the top 2 loops.

Instructions:
Hat Cone
With 5.50 mm hook and yarn, make Magic Ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1 (does not count as first st), 3 sc into the


ring. Place stitch marker in first stitch made and pull
the yarn tail to close the ring tightly.

Rnd 2: 1 WS in ea st. – 3 sts

Note: the first two rounds can be very tough


to work into. I like to start with a 3 stitch
round to make my hat as pointy as possible,
but if you are finding it too difficult, re-start
and work 6 sc into the initial ring and
resume pattern at Rnd 4.
