Terrarium Project

This document describes what eternal terrariums are, including that they are sealed ecosystems that do not need external resources. It explains how processes such as photosynthesis and biogeochemical cycles take place within a closed terrarium. It also provides instructions for creating a terrarium in a bottle.

INTRODUCTION
What are eternal terrariums?

What does terrarium mean? It comes from the Latin terra ('earth') + arium (place or container).
Like an aquarium, but with plants and soil instead of fish and water.

They are a sealed ecosystem in which different organisms and plants coexist in
common without using external resources, that is, it does not need irrigation or fertilization.

Inside it there are different cycles that come together to generate an ecosystem
continuing through the evaporation of water while the plant waters itself
continuously, this action generates moisture creating an appropriate microclimate
for its constant and eternal evolution
A terrarium is a collection of small decorative plants that grow in a
enclosed environment. The container must be transparent and must have an opening.
large to allow access to the interior plants.

Terrariums are miniature gardens housed in small containers.

normally hermetic, like bottles and jars.

As plant ecosystems that operate at full capacity (even if they are

diminutive), are mostly self-sufficient, as the plants are watered themselves
the same through perspiration and condensation.
DESAR
ROLL
How is it that, despite the jar being closed, water can be seen?
in the jar?
Because the earth provides moisture and this causes it to evaporate.

Is it possible for photosynthesis to take place? How is it carried out?

Does that process end in the closed jar?
Yes, because when receiving sunlight, the water cycle is observed as it warms up.
the air inside the terrarium, the water begins to evaporate and that is why the
In the first days we will see how the entire bottle gets fogged up.

What biogeochemical cycles occur in your eternal terrarium?

The water and carbon cycle
Is it possible for a food web or food chain to be generated and
Does it maintain balance on its own?
Yes, because it is a series of organisms that eat each other in such a way that the
energy and nutrients flow from one to another.
Types of terrariums:

Nowadays, terrariums come in all shapes and sizes (literally, almost

you make an idea.

It could also be said that there are various types: open and closed.

Closed terrariums are the classic type. Seal the terrarium and create a system.
closed is what perpetuates the ecosystem... and allows us to do all things
fun. After all, trapping moisture in terrariums is what allowed
the Victorians to cultivate their interesting tropical plants.
Open terrariums can lose many of their characteristics and functions.
important elements of a true terrarium, but they still have their place. They are the most
suitable for plants that do not require much humidity.

MATERIAL:

Bottle with airtight lid (of a regular size that allows for handling)
inside the material
Gravel or small stones (like those used in fish tanks)
Soil for pots (as it is found)
Charcoal in small pieces
Moss of different types and sizes
Small plants with roots included
To decorate branches, stones, seeds,
Spoon
Long sticks to arrange the decorations

PROCEDURE:

The bottle must be well cleaned.

A layer of gravel or small stones is placed (approximately 2
fingers).
3.- Subsequently, with the spoon, place the charcoal, place it in a
sufficient layer to cover the gravel.
4.- With the spoon, the soil is placed; the amount of soil will depend on the
number of plants that are placed.
5.- After the soil, place the plant that we have chosen.
6.- Around the plant, moss is placed, using the spoon or a
long stick.
7.- It is decorated with small stones, sticks, seeds, etc.
8.- Water is added, but only the amount necessary for the soil to remain.

9.- The jar should not be opened, unless after about 3 or 4 days the
walls are very damp, it should be
open the jar and dry its walls with paper to eliminate the
excess water.
9.- NO INANIMATE OBJECTS (ARTIFICIALS) SHOULD BE PLACED
10.- It is hermetically sealed and the date is placed on a label.
