TAXONOMY

Taxonomy is the process that describes the diversity of living beings. This process is carried out
usando artifícios como a classificação e nomenclatura. A classificação consiste em colocar os
individuals into groups based on certain criteria. The nomenclature names the individuals and the
groups to which they belong. Therefore, each grouped piece of these individuals, whether they are
large groups or a single individual is called a taxon.

Origin: Taxonomy began within the Essentialist-Linean school. Essentialist is the

classification given to the process of grouping taxa by shared similarities. The name
Lineana comes from Carl Linnaeus who created the naming system used to this day, the binomial system.

Evolution: There is a logic for making a classification as coherent as possible. This

the logic followed is evolutionary. Evolution stipulates that individuals relate in descent
them, which comes from a common ancestor. Thus, since there is a common ancestor among the
taxa, the evolutionary history is told based on evolutionary novelties (modifications).

Binomial System: Carl Linnaeus created this naming system that became widely used.
worldwide and unified communication among researchers. The scientific names are
composed of two names that are created based on Latin. The first name is always written
With the first letter capitalized and identifying the gender to which that individual belongs. The second
name is written in all lowercase letters and specifically identifies the individual. The two
names together identify the species, such as thewhite sharkGreat white shark
Every time these names are written, they must be highlighted in bold, italics, or underlined.
