RESORCINOL

The document outlines an evaluation of resorcinol purity through REDOX titration, detailing the methodology, chemical reactions, and calculations involved. The results indicated an average purity of 122.72%, which exceeds the expected range of 99.0% to 101.0%, suggesting potential issues with sample integrity. The analysis was limited due to reagent availability, leading to the exclusion of certain samples from evaluation.

Objective:
Determine the purity percentage of a resorcinol sample
through a REDOX titration.

Specific Objectives:
By means of a back titration, determine the purity of
a sample of resorcinol.

Chemical Reaction:

C 6H 6O2+ 3Br2 → C 6H 6O2 3Br2 +3HBr

STANDARDIZATION

5mL of SV was added for each aliquot of Br2 (0.1213N), 5mL of

injectable water, 5mL of HCl, 5mL of KI, left to rest for 5
minutes. 2mL of sodium thiosulfate SV was added.
(0.10714N), 3 mL of soluble starch SI was added and the process continued.
the titration with sodium thiosulfate, until the solution
dark blue became colorless.

they probably weren't the right ones, as a batch was used
different from the sample that is regularly used in
laboratory for the analysis of its content, which exceeded by
more than 20 units the percentage, it is concluded that it was not met
with the expected content.
