PROJECT BRIEF.

DEVELOPMENT OF 8.52 MW SOLAR PV PROJECT WITH A 5KM TRANSMISSION LINE

The Proponent

GridX Africa Development Company Limited is a company that develops, finances, and operates
renewable energy solutions, primarily solar and battery storage systems, for commercial and industrial
clients in sub-Saharan Africa. They provide customized, fully financed projects that help businesses lower
costs and emissions by offsetting power from the grid or diesel generators. Their services include project
development, financing, and operational support for private power companies.

The Proposed Project

Gridx intends to develop an 8.52 MW Solar PV system for its client, Abyssinia Group of companies, The
Solar farm is to be ground mounted on a 20-acre parcel of land that has been leased by the proponent
solely for the purpose of the proposed project. The parcel of land, LR. NO. 9166 (Original Number 1527 /
1), is located off the Kibos - Kisumu road on GPS coordinates: -0.069141, 34.830549.
The Solar farm is proposed to generate energy that would serve the Abyssinia steel factory which is
approximately 5km away from the proposed site along the Kisumu – Kibos road. An extra component of
the solar project is a 5KM transmission line that will be the means of power evacuation. The Solar energy
project is to be used to primarily power the plant’s overall operations and not for any commercial purposes

Project Development.
The Proposed System will be financed and developed by GridX Africa Development Company Ltd on
behalf of the off-taker (Abyssinia Group of companies) based on 25 years off – take contract. GridX Africa
Development is a solar power project development company operating throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

Project Objectives
The major objective of the solar PV system is to utilize the ample solar energy resource in the project area
to generate clean electricity and provide a primary source of power for Abyssinia steel industry. This will
increase power reliability, reduce overall costs, reduce use of fossil fuels and improve the proponent’s
environmental performance. It’s noteworthy that currently the Hotel purely relies on diesel powered
gensets and KPLC for all its power supply. Moving to Solar energy will reduces the proponent’s carbon
footprint and enhance their environmental performance.

The EIA Consultants.

Greenlite Consultants Ltd, a NEMA registered firm of experts (Reg. No. 11123) in Environmental Impact
Assessment and Auditing, was appointed as a Consultant to conduct the Environmental Impact
Assessment of the proposed 8.5 mWp solar PV system.
