Claudio Sahut was a French architect who arrived in Peru in 1905 and played an important role in the development of architecture in Lima in the early decades of the 20th century. He designed numerous governmental, residential, and commercial buildings that reflected academic and classical styles learned in France. CLAUDIO ANTOINE SAHUT LAURENT

RELEVANCE OF THE CHARACTER

Claudio Sahut was born in Montpellier (France) on January 15, 1883, and died in
1932. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, specializing in drawing and
management of ornamentation and decoration styles within architecture.
He arrived in Peru in 1905 and brought with him all the French splendor from his homeland.

from the Government of Peru, the Reserve Park, the German Transatlantic Bank, the
Archbishop's Palace of Lima (jointly carried out with architect Ricardo de
the Jaxa Malachowski) in charge of the ornamentation, work for which he was
awarded second place in the Contest organized by the
Lima Municipality in 1916 (Villamón, 20016: 45), the Oeschle Store, Portal of
Botoneros 160 (Current jirón Huallaga), the Colón Theater, in Plaza San Martín.

WORKS OF CLAUDIO SAHUT

Fifth Orphans and the Riva

In 1911, Claudio Sahut was commissioned to build the workers' houses of


the estates Los Huérfanos and La Riva, constituting the first buildings
built by the State under a popular housing policy.
WOMEN'S HOSPITAL

On January 8, 1913, the Public Charitable Society of Lima reported the


construction of a new Women's Hospital, which shortly after
would turn into the emblematic National Hospital Archbishop Loayza. Which
it consisted of a land area of 60,000 square meters for the work and would have
25 pavilions dedicated to the patients and the general service of the hospital.
COLÓN THEATER

The Colón theater by Claudio Sahut in Plaza San Martin was built with a
Art Nouveau facade, occupying the corner of Belén Street and Quilca. That theater

FERNANDINI HOUSE

The Fernandini House in 1914, one of its most successful works, which constitutes
as an evocation of the Louis XV style in terms of Art Nouveau, being this

HOTEL B. - CASA GARCIA BEDOYA

The famous French architect Claude Sahut was originally commissioned to design
the property as a summer residence for the García Bedoya family. Its
architectural characteristics and style capture the spirit of celebration of
centenary of Peru.
THE OECHSLE HOUSE

The Oechsle house is named after brothers Fernando Augusto and Arthuro.
Oechsle Junk, born in Ulm, Germany. Accountant the first, merchant the

The new Oechsle store, replacing the smaller old one, was designed
by Claudio Sahut between 1911-1913 and inaugurated in 1917. The style of the

THE CENTRAL RESERVE PARK

On June 4, 1926, the Leguía government established the Executive Commission of


Reserve Park, and I appoint engineer as its president and responsible.

MAY 2ND SQUARE

It was built in 1874, erected in homage to the participants in the famous
