1. In 2010, population of one city was 60,000.

There were 50 infant deaths,500 total deaths


and 1200 live birth. Out of these infant deaths 30 children dies in first 28 days of life and 7
children dies in first week of life. Still birth was 10. Calculate vital rates.
2. In a community with a mid year population of 30,000,the total number of males was 15,500
and that of females was [Link] were 2900 children in the under five age group. In
total 206 deaths were reported in the same year,100 were males and 106 were females.
There were 42 deaths in children younger than 5 years, Calculate CDR and ASMR for the
under five age group and specific mortality rates for males and females.
3. In a town with 20,000 population, following statistics were reported related to pulmonary
TB in a year 2016
 Total no. of Pulmonary TB cases = 500
 No. of newly detected cases if pulmonary TB = 90
 Total no, of cases on 31st December 2016 = 380
 Calculate the Incidence, Period prevalence for the year 2016 and point prevalence on
31st December 2016.
4. In a hostel having 160 children, four cases of measles were detected. Within 10 days
,another 40 cases were identified. On enquiry, It was found that of the healthy children ,42
were immunized against measles. Assuming 100 % protection by measles vaccine,
Calculate the Secondary Attack Rate.
5. Of 75 persons who attended a picnic,46 subsequently developed gastroenteritis .Calculate
the attack rate of gastroenteritis.
6. In a Primary health Centre (PHC)area, with a population of 33,000 in a year 2016
surveillance for malaria revealed the following information
 No. of slides examined for malaria parasite = 1640
 No. of total slides positive for malaria = 98
 No. of slides positive for Plasmodium vivax = 60
 No. of slides positive for Plasmodium falciparum = 31
 No of slides positive for P. vivax+ P. falciparum = 07.

Calculate various indicators related to malaria and comment.


7. Following are the statistics for a city with mid year population of 210,000 for the year 2016.

9. In a Village X,150 women were using contraceptive method “A” for 2 years. Among them during

2-year period,60 women conceived pregnancy. Calculate Pearl Index of contraceptive method.

10. A primary health centre with midyear population of 30,000 gives the following data of 1 year.

Calculate the fertility rates, mention the validity of each rate.

12. In a town with a population of 1.5 lakh there were 4,500 live births, 35 still births, 100
deaths of children less than 7 days, 175 deaths of children less than 28 day, 200 deaths of
children between 1 month to 1 year calculate the following
1. Infant Mortality Rate 2. Perinatal Mortality Rate
3. Neonatal Mortality Rate 4. Post Neonatal Mortality Rate
13. An outbreak of cholera occurred in a village with a population of 1000. Out of the 250
cases of cholera, 10 deaths were reported. Calculate attack rate and case fatality rate.
14. In a town with a population of 2 lakhs, there were 5000 deaths from T.B, 860 deaths from
tetanus. 1020 from CHD. 420 from cancer. Calculate cause specific death rates.
15. What is maternal mortality rate? In the year 2016 in district “A” 30 women died due to
purpural Sepsis. Number of live births recorded in the same year was 800. .Calculate
MMR of the district and comment on it.

17. Calculate the monthly vaccine requirement (of TT, BCG & Measles) of a PHC with a
population of 45,000 having a crude birth rate of 24/ 1000 and infant mortality rate 74 /
1000.
18. In a small city”A” the population according to 1991 census (1st March) was 8, 86,200 and
as per 2001 census was 12, 66,440. Estimate mid – year population for the years 1995 &
2005 with the help of arithmetic progression method.

19. In a medical college hostel, there is a tank which holds 45500 litre of water. Horrocks test
shows blue colour in 5th cup. Calculate the required amount of bleaching powder for
disinfection?
20. A circular well of 10-meter diameters with 15 m depth of water is to be chlorinated. The
Horrocks test shows blue color in 3rd cup onwards. Calculate the quantity of bleaching
powder required to disinfect the well. Explain the procedure of disinfection of well? [5
Marks]
21. In a slum there is a circular katcha dug well which is measuring 4 meter in diameter. Depth
of the water is 10 metre. Calculate the amount of bleaching powder required to disinfect
the well if 5th cup in horrock’s test shows blue colour? [5 Marks]
