BUS 371 Critical Thinking Through Business Case Analysis
Assignment Guide for the Infographic Assignment
The infographic assignment has two components: the creation and use of an infographic to support
an argument and the anonymous evaluation of two fellow students’ work. The exercise is worth 10%
of your final grade (7% for the creation of the infographic and 3% for the critique of 3 of your
classmates’ work).
Part One: create an infographic to support an argument or convey an idea
Due: 11:59pm on November 23, 2025 (Submit on Canvas)
Assignment Description
Infographics is an effective tool to help you convey complex information and ideas. While appearance
matters, value is created by how well your infographic helps you make your point. In this assignment,
you are to develop an argument or an idea of some complexity with the aid of an infographic. (You
may wish to consult my lecture on infographics before attempting this assignment.)
Requirements
1. State your argument or your idea in no more than 100 words. (No need to use a memo
format.) Let the infographic speak for itself. The following are some sample topics:
a. Affordability of higher education is deteriorating
b. The US stock market is overvalued
c. Missed opportunities: how the world failed to contain the spread of COVID-19 in
the early days of the pandemic
d. How does Google dominate search advertising? (An example is provided for you to
see how the Wall Street Journal does it.)
2. Find some quantitative and qualitative evidence to support your argument. How are you
going to use this data to make your point? (The key objective of this exercise.)
3. Design your infographic.
4. You are not required to use any specialized tools to create your infographic. However, there
are such tools available. (See https://www.huffpost.com/entry/5-great-online-tools-for-
_b_5964874)
5. You must cite your references and data sources.
Deliverables
1. Please identify yourself by a pseudonym or a pen name (as your work will be reviewed by an
anonymous reviewer). Please remove the author’s information from the file you submit to
Canvas. (See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/remove-hidden-data-and-

2. Your argument or idea in less than 100 words.
3. Your infographic.
4. References.

Part Two: review your classmate’s work anonymously and provide constructive feedback
Due: 11:59pm on November 30, 2025
Requirements
• You may access your classmates’ submissions by accessing the same assignment container
(click on peer reviews). You are to review 3 submissions.
• Please note your task is not to agree or disagree with the author. You are to evaluate the
construction and quality of their argument (and the associated infographic). Your review
should have an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Each review should be less than 200
words.
• Consider these questions (and comment accordingly):
o For the argument:
▪ Did the author provide an argument (or a statement of purpose) that is less
than 100 words? (Skip the rest of the questions if the author did not state the
argument in words.)
▪ Consider the core argument presented. Is it clearly defined? Is it
appropriately framed?
▪ Identify the premises. Are they true? Are they supported by credible
evidence?
▪ Did the author make implicit assumptions that are not explained
(presupposition)?
▪ Is the information provided relevant to the issue at hand? Can you identify
any irrelevant information?
▪ Is the argument logically valid? (i.e. Do premises give the reader a reason to
accept the proposed conclusion?)
▪ Are there any reasoning errors that undermine the logic of the argument?
(Fallacies are common reasoning errors.)
o For the infographic:
▪ Use the criteria suggested in the readings and my lecture on infographics to
comment on the effectiveness of the infographic (which is its ability to
support the key premises of an argument).
▪ Did the author put in a reasonable amount of effort?
▪ Is it easy to understand?
• Suggestions:
o Do you accept the conclusion? Explain your decision with your reasoning.
o What are the strengths and weaknesses of this submission?
o How would you improve this submission (the infographic)? Be specific.
• The tone of your review should be appreciative and supportive. You are invited to share your
views, but your review will be graded on its effectiveness as constructive feedback.
• The author will review your critique and inform me of its effectiveness.

Evaluative Criteria
Part One (The argument and infographic)
A good submission should first meet all assignment requirements. Then I will evaluate the
construction of your argument and the use of credible evidence. The soundness of your argument,
thoughtfulness, effort on research, quality of your presentation, and reflection of knowledge from
course material contribute to the grade you receive. Technically, an argument is considered cogent if
all its premises are true (or at least believable). Ideally, they should be supported by credible evidence.
All information used should be relevant. The argument should also be logically valid. (The premises
should give the reader a reason to accept the conclusion the author puts forth.)
I will use the criteria I provided in my infographics lecture to determine the effectiveness of your
infographic. Effort matters!
Part Two (The critique)
Your review will be graded on its thoroughness and thoughtfulness. I am looking for a piece of
constructive feedback that asks questions as well as provides specific suggestions. The author will
provide feedback on your critique, and I will consider this information in the grading process.
