In 2025, Bharat hosted one of the largest and most spectacular fairs in the world - the Maha Kumbh
Mela - in the cily of Prayagraj. This grand event which lasts for two months, happens only once every
twelve years. Millions of people from all over the world gather to take a holy dip in the sacred water
of the sangam (Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati) believing that it will wash away their sins and bring
blessings.
The Ganga begins its journey high in the Himalayas at a glacier called Gangotri. From there, it
flows for approximately 2,525 kilometers in Bharat, passing through five states- Uttarakhand, Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal - before meeting the ocean. At its end, it forms the
Sundarbans Delta, one of the largest deltas in the world; a home to mangroves and the famous Royal
Bengal Tiger.
Along its journey, the Ganga is a lifeline for nearly 400 million people. It provides drinking
water, irrigates fields and supports fishing communities. For centuries, this mighty river has been a
