A Delhi fire safety inspection checklist covers the building's access, exits, and internal layout, along with

specific fire safety systems like alarms, extinguishers, hydrants, and pumps. Key areas of inspection
include ensuring clear and obstructed escape routes, adequate exit signage, and properly functioning fire
suppression systems and detection panels. The checklist also verifies electrical safety, compartmentation,
and emergency procedures.

Building access and exits

 Access: Ensure the building has adequate access for emergency services.
 Exits: Check for a sufficient number of exits with the correct width and type, and that they lead to a safe
area.
 Doors: All doors on escape routes must open in the direction of travel and be easy to open from the
inside.
 Signage: Verify that exit signs are clear, properly lit, and that emergency lighting is functional.
 Staircases: Stairs and paths must be in good condition, free from tripping hazards, and provided with
ramps and handrails for those with special needs.

Fire detection and alarm systems

 System functionality: Confirm the entire system, including smoke detectors, alarm panels, and hooters,
is functional and tested regularly.
 System components: Check for the presence of fire detection and alarming systems, including repeater
panels and a battery backup.
 Public Address System: Ensure a working Public Address (PA) system is in place.

Fire suppression systems

 Fire extinguishers: Check the number, type, IS marking, and placement of extinguishers, ensuring they
are charged and accessible.
 Hose reels: Verify the number and length of first-aid hose reels on each floor.
 Hydrants: Inspect both internal and yard hydrants, including their number and hose boxes.
 Sprinkler systems: Ensure automatic sprinkler systems (if installed) are functional, with a separate water
supply and regular testing.
 Pumps: Check the pumping arrangements, including main pumps, jockey pumps, and standby pumps, for
correct discharge, head, and power supply.

Electrical and building features

 Electrical safety: Inspect all electrical wiring, machinery, and processes, and ensure all electrical shafts
have sealed doors with the required fire rating.
 Compartmentation: Check for fire check doors and fire dampers, especially at electrical shafts and fire-
rated walls.
 Lifts: Ensure lifts are provided with proper signage, including a "fireman's switch" and a warning not to
use in a fire.
 Lift shafts: Confirm that lift shafts have proper pressurization.

Emergency preparedness and procedures

 Emergency procedures: Check for clearly defined and accessible written emergency and evacuation
procedures.
 Staff training: Ensure staff are trained in fire safety, the use of fire-fighting equipment, and evacuation
procedures.
 Fire wardens: Verify the presence of trained fire wardens, who are easily identifiable.
 Regular drills: Confirm that regular fire drills are conducted.
